1-What was/were the learning objectives/outcomes of the lesson?

TEKS (8)(A) Solve quadratic equations having real solutions by factoring, taking square roots,
completing the square, and applying the quadratic formula.
Mathematical Process Standard (1)(E) Create and use representations to organize, record, and
communicate mathematical ideas.

2-How did the teacher begin and end the lesson?

The teacher has started with a bell work. He showed five questions on the screen about the previous
lessons topic.

3-What did the teacher use for teaching materials or instructional aids/equipment?

He was really good to use technological devices in class. He used computer, projector, Ipad , Apple
Tv and students chrome books.

4-Which instructional methods and strategies did the teacher use? (Lecture, inquiry, discovery
learning, discussions, games or simulations, demonstrations, cooperative learning, integration of
technology, creative questioning, etc.)

Lecturing, integrating technology and cooperative learning. He used small-groupp technic.

5-How did the teacher assess learning? (Informal, formal, formative, summative, oral, open-ended,
quiz, feedback etc.) See Chapter 8 for more information on assessment methods

The teacher was controlling the students answers on his computer and he was answering the answers
individually. He has explained couple of the questions on the board that he thinks most of the
students couldnt answer correctly. At the end of the class he asked an exit ticket.
6- What can you say about the teachers philosophy/beliefs and style? (Traditional/progressive,
behaviorist, student-centered vs. teacher centered, authoritative etc)

I can say that the teachers philosophy has based on the student-centered. He has explained the topic
on the board one time and gave the directions to the students.

7-How does the teacher manage classroom? Can you identify classroom management
techniques used?

The teacher had well-organized rules and routines. Students were familiar with all process.
Transitions were smooth for teachers and students. Students had never asked whats next? When the
student came into the classroom, they have started to answer the bell work questions without
teachers reminder.

8-Observe in the classroom setting and determine types of behavior students play when off-
task. What do they do when they are not paying attention? How does the teacher re-direct them
or get them back on task?

Overall students were so respectful. Only one student has put on his headphones and I think he
listened to music but the teacher has reminded the directions. He has pointed a poster which has
classroom rules and procedures. On the poster it says Listening to music is not allowed during the
class. The teacher had taken an action whenever he saw the student. It was good. Students were
known there are some rules in this class and there is consistency.

9-How does the teacher communicate with students (verbal, vocal, meta-verbal or non-verbal
communication such as facial, body language, use of space, motion and time?)

He mostly communicated verbally. He also gave some feedback from his computer to some students.

10-Who were the students in the class? What did you notice about them? (Background, diversity,
attitude, motivation, interaction, participation, etc)

Academically it was not a high level class. Students were average. They were from different
backgrounds. The majority of ethnicity was Hispanic. They were respectful. They didnt attempt any
behavior issue.

11-What did you see that is effective in engaging students? What do you see that is ineffective in
keeping students engaged?
Students were willing to learn. Even though it was last block they were still listening. The only thing
the students were sitting during the all class. It might be more hands on activities or one students may
answer a question on the board.
12-What are the two instructional strategies you observed and would like to apply in your
classroom?

The teacher was giving feedbacks immediately and he was connecting the topic with students
previous knowledge. He was encouraging them to do better by giving feedback.

13-What are two important classroom management strategies that you observed and would like
to apply in your classroom?

The poster was really effective. During a circumstance he just pointed the poster
and he handled it easily.
