Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a special gift from God. Forgiveness means the act of forgiving someone

who something to you. The book called Left To Tell is a great example of forgiveness. Left To

Tell is about how a girl named Immaculee Ilibagiza survived the Rwandan genocide. It talks

about her personal experiences and what happened to her family. The Rwandan genocide was a

terrible event, but with faith and trust in God anyone can forgive.

It is very important to forgive others especially the ones who offended you greatly. If no

one could forgive than no one would get along with each other. This is why Immaculee sees

forgiveness as so necessary. Immaculee was raised in a very religious household by her parents.

When the genocide started Immaculee wondered how God could be letting this happen.

Surprising she kept her faith strong and trusted God. This led to her forgiving the killers because

she trusted Gods plan.

The opposite of forgiveness is punishment. Punishment is the result of doing something

that is wrong. The Tutsis used to be the favored ethnic group of Rwanda and the Hutu were the

minority. Some Tutsis used to discriminate against the Hutu. The Hutu were not very happy and
wanted to punish the Tutsi for what they did. The Rwandan genocide started because the Hutu

could not forgive the Tutsi and wanted to punish them for what they did. This is a great example

of how lack of forgiveness could affect mankind. If the Hutu could have forgiven the Tutsi then

the genocide would have never happened and millions of lives would be saved.

It can be very hard for humans to forgive each other and it can be very easy to forgive

each other. Forgiveness is a key factor to peace in the world. For peace to occur they has to be

forgiveness because there will be times when someone or a country does wrong against another.

If there was no forgiveness then there would be non-stop war because if a country did something

to another country and they did not forgive then they would go to war. Finally forgiveness is very

important in our lives. It would be very hard to get along with others if you could not forgive

them.

Forgiveness is very hard to achieve. Especially for Immaculee who forgave the killers her

killed her family. The Rwandan genocide was a terrible event, but with faith and trust in God you

can forgive anyone. Forgiveness is a good thing to have in your life because we do not want

another genocide like this to happen again.
