1ST Round
THBT the Internet is the cause of social ills among teenagers.
Opposition

Opposition Leader

1. Introduction

You cant gaze in the a crystal ball and see the future. What the
internet is going to be in the future is what society makes it to be.
A very illuminating quote by one of the internets creator, Robert E.
Kahn or famously known as Bob Khan. Those words truly prompt us,
the oppositions, to be here on this wonderful day to clear the mist of
confusion that circulates the members of the floor on whether the
internet is the cause of social ills among teenagers.

Good morning/afternoon, members of the floorboard, honorable

timekeeper(s) the prestige judges, not forgetting the Government
team that we are encountering as well as my fellow teammates that
will be assisting me in this debate today. Before I go any further,
the opposition would like affirm our stance on this motion which is
We strongly believe and deem that the internet is not at all or
anywhere close as being the cause of social ills among teenagers.

In fact, I cant even begin without thanking the internet for the
providing us with facts and resources to conquer the topic for today
that has mislead the government side. Hopefully by the end of this
debate, everyone, including the government team themselves are
able to perceive the truth.

2. Role introduction

Before I move on, I humbly will lay out the structure of the
oppositions case.

{1st Speaker Role} As the Opposition leader, I will be contributing

one argument alongside a brief interpretations of key terms that has
been kindly offered by Prime Minister of the Government team but
needs further clarification.

{2nd Speaker Role} The Deputy leader of the opposition team will
further share two arguments.

{3rd Speaker Role} While our third final whip will be rebutting
arguments given by the government team.
3. Terminologies

Now, the outmost important terms that are involved in this motion
here today we believe are :

I. Internet > which was described by the Prime minister as

_______________________________________________________________
________
II. Cause > defined as
______________________________________________________
III. Social ills > explained as
___________________________________________________
and
IV. Teenagers
>_____________________________________________________________
_______

We fully acknowledge the definitions provided but in our case, we

would like to highlight and further restate the pure meaning behind
the highly controversial word Cause. The originator of a specific
situation or condition. But I personally expect everyone to know
what this word means since we tend to use it in our daily lives. But
one must first examine an example sentence that was provided by
the Oxford Dictionary to enhance what cause actually means in
the context of this debate. Drinking and driving is the cause of
traffic accidents. Notice how in the subjects linked to the situation,
theres an ongoing action behind it. It is not drink or drive in
general thats the root of this issue. This illustration could be
perfectly matched with the main subject of this motion here today,
Internet, which was perceived as the essence of social ills among
teenager, rather than it being manipulated and misused to produce
negative impacts on the youth. With that cleared up, I will be further
be using this analogy on my argument.

4. Rebuttals

But with that in mind, I must pause for a moment and first present
to everyone here today my rebuttal against the Governments first
argument which was
{ }

It is clear that the Government has been mislead as they believe in

Why (is it wrong) :

5. Argument (1)

Now, it is finally time for the Oppositions first argument, obviously

awaited for which is

The Internet is only a platform that facilitates information

Now what does that actually mean? Simple really! As it might

suggests. The internet is only that, a broad sea of information and
has no one infinitively powerful being controlling whatever that
happens within it. No one is there sitting on a chair outsourcing
information 24/7 or controlling what goes on and about as some
theorist has claimed.

In the more advanced technological perspective, The Internet is the

global system of interconnected computer networks that use the
Internet protocol suite to link devices worldwide. It is a network of
networks, also known as packets, that consists of private, public,
academic, business, and government networks of local to global
scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical
networking technologies. The Internet carries an extensive range of
information resources and services, such as the inter-linked
hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web or
what we futurist have been calling it WWW,electronic mail,
telephony, and peer-to-peer networks for file sharing.

Complicated? Not if we compromise with the fact that it is

Hypocritical of us as a society to blame The internet , something
in which doesnt even have a body or proper structure, being the
cause of social ills among teenagers. It ironically, is us who control
what the internet has to offer. All the resources, all the information,
all the unlimited data are from ideas of us, human beings. Even the
simple things like a text shared through applications such as
Whatsapp are non verbal information that we deliver.
Doing a direct comparison between the days where Internet was still
unknown until now where internet has become a tool that we
benefit from on a daily basis, there is no sort of connection with the
issue we are debating about, social issues among teenagers.
Whether it be a physical or physiological issue, it is implausible to
claim the internet with no acknowledgement towards the internet
contribution and the unlimited resources as being the pure root of
this issue.

6. Conclusion

Sadly, Ive met the end of the line and my remaining members will
proudly present more arguments to further solidify our teams
stance. Before I back of, I would urge the entire floor to take a
minute and see the fault in the Governments proposition and the
elaborated arguments I have provided. With that Id like to end my
speech thank you.
