Follow the steps on this page in order.

1. (15 seconds) Decide who will be Partner A and Partner B.

2. (Five minutes) Partner A: Read your essay out loud to Partner B.


Read carefully. Pronounce each word. Speak towards your partner, not into a piece
of paper.

3. (One minute) Partner B: Give verbal feedback on Partner As essay.


Focus comments on clarity (Did you understand?) and passion (Do they seem as
though they put thought into the subject?)

4. (Five minutes) Partner B: Read your essay out loud to Partner A.


Read carefully. Pronounce each word. Speak towards your partner, not into a piece
of paper.

5. (One minute) Partner A: give verbal feedback on Partner Bs essay.


Focus comments on clarity (Did you understand?) and passion (Do they seem as
though they put thought into the subject?)

6. Partner A and Partner B trade papers.

7. Re-read your partners work silently.

8. Answer the questions on the back of this page.

9. Re-read your partners work again, this time checking for common spelling
and grammar mistakes.
Use the marks on the board or the handout as needed. Focus on major issues, such as:
capitalization of proper nouns (America, Texas);
fixing incomplete and run-on sentences;
creating paragraphs breaks; and
deleting unnecessary words.
