MANAGEMENT

A SMART way to
do business!
A SMART way to do business!

Turning a design
inspiration into a
product reality is no
easy task especially
in todays
competitive
marketplace when
it is all about lead
times and costs.
A SMART way to do business!

The time in
which you bring
a design creation
to life is being
squeezed
all through the
supply chain.
A SMART way to do business!

With tighter budgets, and

design taking place as close
to the season as possible,
there is a movement to
shorten the color
development process.
A SMART way to do business!

An effective color
management process
gives both the design
and manufacturing
community precise
color on a digital
and international
stage without
compromise.
How can an effective color management process
help me save time + money and go from studio to
store in a much shorter time frame?
What can a color management process do for
me?
An effective color management process helps
ensure that your inspiration is realized in the
final product.

Dramatically reduces cycle time and number of

lab dips required.

Increases efficiency and reduces color

management process costs by 50% or more.

Higher quality of color matching and shade

band control will lead to improved appearance
on the retail selling floor.
What can a color management process do for me?

With production taking place remote from the site

of original design and more people involved in the
color development process, a color management
process gives brands/retailers the ability to
standardize and control the color communication
and evaluation process globally.

Finally, color management means that you no

longer have to settle.
Color Management Process Components
There are 4 major components to
successful color management:

High Quality Color Standard

Spectrophotometric Screening

Software evaluation and

communication

Standardized operating procedures

for visual and instrumental
evaluation
Color Standards

A high quality color standard is the foundation of an

effective color process.
Spectrophotometric
Screening

Spectrophotometers measure
color and are used to evaluate
lab dips from your vendors.

They are a critical component

since they will remove much of
the subjectivity from color
evaluation.

All vendor solid color lab dips

are screened and all that have
no chance of approval will be
rejected before being sent to the
brand / retailer.
Software

Software is used to evaluate the lab dips read into the

spectrophotometer and gives us a clear Pass / Fail grade.
All color information will be communicated electronically.
All color history will be archived automatically for later
reference in a lab dip status report.
Standardized Operating Procedures

It is important to have
disciplined instrumental
and visual color
evaluation procedures for
consistent results.

There should be a
controlled environment in
which color can be
visually evaluated.
controlled light source
conditioned samples
standard viewing conditions
Standardized Operating Procedures

It is critical that those

critiquing color are
viewing color in the same
way as the vendor that is
submitting it.

Visual evaluation by the

brand / retailer is the final
determination of approval
or rejection of screened
lab dips.
SMART Color Management Process

Retailer/Brand selects color for internal palette development.

Retailer/Brand sends the appropriate vendors lab dip requests

Vendors order physical standards

Mills send lab dips when ready for approval.

Retailer measures the lab dips into the spectrophotometer

Lab dips are screened for provisional pass / fail

Retailer receives physical lab dips from vendor, views in light box.
determines final approval or comments.

Process continues until all colors are approved.
