This week we meet Shaun White from the USA. Shaun is only fourteen and is already a
professional snowboarder.

How often do you go snowboarding?

I go every weekend in winter. Its a three-hour drive to the mountains so I cant go every day
unfortunately!
Have you got a trainer?
Yes, my teacher is my older brother, Jesse, Hes nineteen and he teaches me different tricks.
How expensive is all the equipment?
It isnt expensive at all. I get most of it free from my sponsors
Do you do any other sports?
I like surfing in the summer but I also do a lot of skateboarding about three days a week.
Do you like traveling to competitions?
Yes, I do. I go away every month in winter. I go all over the USA, to Canada, to Europe and also
to Japan. Japan is my favorite country.
What do your parents do when youre away?
My family always come with me. They all ski and snowboard. We all travel together my
parents, my sister Carrie, my brother Jesse and me.
What do you do about school?
School is important and I do all my homework. My grades are quite good. But I also have a
home teacher because I travel a lot.
Why do you think snowboarding is so popular now?
Its fun and its not too difficult. And you can do it even if theres not much snow.
Do you enjoy competing?
Yes, I do. I like to see new countries and ride different courses. Its cool!
