Hypothesis

If we provide electricity to our turbine, then we

could create a vacuum cleaner.

Purpose
To apply the physics concept about the
electricity circuit into real life situation.

To demonstrate how the electrical energy

can be transfer to mechanical energy.

To create the product that can be useful in real life by

applying the knowledge about the electricity into it.
Background Information
Vacuum Cleaner -First Invention
A man named Dyson Cordless invented a machine that could
suck in air and therefore, suck in particles like dust, it was
known as the cyclonic cleaner at the time. The machine was
gigantic and it had little mobility, it was expensive as well, so
not many people bought it right away. However, through time
his earnings allowed him to create a more compatible machine
that was less expensive, he named it the DC01 after his name
Dyson Cordless.
His invention had a brush under the machine that would
scrape the floor or carpet, allowing the dust to be exposed
and therefore, allow the machine to obtain the dust particles.
This invention is widely used today but is more advanced as it
is now a cordless vacuum. However, in this experiment our
product would have a cord attached to our vacuum because
we are inventing a machine that works on small scales and
not covering large areas. If large areas are needed, we must
only extend the length of the cord, allowing the radius and
circumference of the area to increase allowing more areas to
be reached.
Background Information
Vacuum Cleaner - Principle
The basic principle of a vacuum cleaner is that it works by a suction. It
pulls air inside the container and therefore, sucks up the particles that we
want to get rid of. There would be a turbine within the vacuum, acting
as a suction so that particles would be sucked inside instead of being
blown away. In order to make it work, we must have pressure within the
container, we must create a gradient in the pressures so that the air
moves from a gradient of high pressure to low pressure. The angled
blades from the turbine would move air under the turbine and cause
pressure, so, the area would have a low pressure.

Electricity
Electrostatic is a board topics that underlines many concepts on
electricity and the idea of charges either in stationary or on motion.
The use of electric circuit is one demonstration of how electricity are
created due to a closed loop which allows the charges to flow
continuously, after joining it to the power source. This concept can
be expressed as the rate at which the charge flows across the circuit.
It can be measured by focusing the charge that flows past certain
point on the circuit, where the following equation can be expressed
as so:

I = Q/t
where the total current (I) is equal to the flow of charge (Q) over certain
time periods (t).
We must consider the atomic model as well. An atom consists of a
nucleus in the centre of the atom which is made up of protons and
neutrons and electrons orbiting the nucleus. The electrons that orbit the
atom is called the valence electron and with enough force to overcome its
orbit, it can become a free electron. The free electrons allow charges to
move and could generate electricity.

Turbine
There are many types of turbine that would be generated by wind, steam
power or even water, however, in our experiment we will produce a product
that uses wind power to create a vacuum. A turbine has blades and
electromagnets opposing each other, the electromagnet allows the blades to
have electrical energy once they move and therefore, turbines can generate
electricity from wind.

Our vacuum cleaner is designed to be a
rectangular shape with light weight which makes
this machine really convenient tocarry and use.
Two wheels also attached to each sides of the
vacuum to make the movement becomes easier.
More than half of the space inside the container is
provided to store all the dust particles. The
machine also consists of a 2 centimetres
diameter sucking tube that able to suck the small
and medium size particles effectively. Moreover,
the high ability of a fan inside the vacuum could
potentially provide a power to suck all the dust
particles in the car, from the computer, etc. Lastly,
the vacuum is made really attractive as the lid of
the vacuum is painted with the lovely yellow color
as well as the body that is covered in sky blue
color.

Conclusion
As we have been working on this
project, it provides us a better standing of
how the vacuum cleaner machine works
as well as how it relates to the use of
electricity and electrical devices.
Moreover, for our project especially,
weve learned how to make a vacuum
cleaner from scratch. During the processes
of this project, we did not only develop
our understand toward our study areas
but we also improve our management
and teamwork skills in order to
successfully overcome all the challenges.
