Learning Goals, snamis mocute, yout learn to: ++ Develop the solution to a 2D structural mechanics problem in ANSYS Mechanical + Verity and validate the numerical cesuts from ANSVS ‘+ Connect the ANSYS steps to concepts covered in the Big Ideas: Finite Element Analysis section Handout: ‘+ Powerpoint sides uses in tne videos: Before markup ‘+ Powerpoint slides used inthe videos: after markup. Problem Specification ‘This meoule is arawin trom MAE 2250 Analysis of Mechanical ana Aerospace Structuras at Comell UnWvarsty. Consider a crank mounted on a bicycle as illustrated in the picture below. When a rider is pedaling the bicycle, she or he is applying a varable force to this bike crank. To simplify the analysis, well neglect te variation of the ‘force with time and fecus on the response of the crank 10 a static force. This i analogous to taking avideo of ‘the bike crankiand analyzing a single frame by set. in this module, we will work wth the folowing crank model. Te geometry wil be provided 10 you as a download. The crank is made of aluminum 6061-T6 alloy. For this material, the Young's modulus is 1x10" sland me PoIsson's Ratio is 33. The left three hole surfaces are fied and ¢ load of 100 lbfis applied on the righthole surface in} direction. Note that tis is an approximation of the actual loads anc constraints on te bike crank iprard Using ANSYS Mechanical, we wil calculate the foliowing + Deformed shaoe and displacement field ‘© Stress distribution in the crank We'll verify our results by undertaking a systematic process for checking results.
