Committee: #1
Delegate: Alexandra Molina
Topic: Addressing the Global Refugee Crisis
Opening Statement:
Currently there are 13.5 million displaced syrian refugees requiring humanitarian assistance, 6
million of those 13.5 are internally displaced in Syria, and over 4.8 million refugees outside of
Syria because of the massive 6 year long civil war. There are 13.5 million refugees running for
their lives, grabbing what they can take with them on their backs. 5 million children are having
to walk miles through rain, and raging heat, dehydrated and malnourished. The refugee camps
that these human beings are brought to are revolting camps, where there is never enough food ,
and not enough restrooms or tents for each family to usethese are unlivable conditions.
National Actions:
France as a country is proud of its refugee intake we will be taking in 30,000 refugees in the next
two years and 400 refugees a month from Greece. France will also put forward $53.3 million to
invest in building better housing for the refugees. Although there have been various terrorist
attacks on France in the past 6 years we have still kept our doors open for those fleeing their
country. Since the terrorist attacks there has been a lack of tourism in France. France is the
second most visited place in the world, millions of people visit every year and spend money
which is one of the ways that France makes money from, now without tourism there is no money
coming into the country. Because of that there is no possible way to improve Grande-Synthe, a
refugee camps that has recently been burned down due to a fight between Kurdish and Afghan
gangs. With that there will be no way to recuperate the camp without money. France is also
suffering a major debt of 2.9 billions dollars, and an unemployment rate of 10.6%.
