Performance Task Title: A Pocket for Corduroy Lost Poster Writing Suggested Grade: 1st
Grade Reading Level
We will begin the lesson by reading aloud the book A Pocket for Corduroy, to the target student. From there the student
and teacher will have a discussion about the parts of the story, identifying the characters, reviewing plot points, etc. After
identifying the main character, Lisa, begin a discussion of what Lisa could do to find Corduroy. Then the teacher will ask the
target student to identify what about the bear could be written down to identify him on a poster and write it down on a piece
of paper (what the bear looks like, where he was lost, when he was lost, etc.,).
From there, explain what an announcement is - an informational letter letting the reader know what you need help with or
telling someone something important. Then have the target student make a small lost bear poster. The target student will
draw a photo of the bear, along with a lost description, using the points written down during the discussion about the main
characters, details about Corduroy, the setting, and the plot of the story.
