Calibration of Conductivity Sensors

THORNTON Auto-loop Factory Calibration System

THORNTON conductivity sensors are industry standards for determining water
purity and solution concentration. THORNTON ISO 9001 factory calibration and
certification are NIST and ASTM traceable using THORNTONs unique ultrapure
auto-loop calibration system. Certification includes test and accuracy, plus materi-
als as noted in sensor specifications.

USP pharmaceutical water monitoring requirements are met with sanitary sensors
which provide accurate conductivity and temperature measurement. 316L stainless
steel Tri-Clamp mounting sensors have an electropolished finish with roughness
average (Ra) <0.2m, <8in.

4-electrode sensors are ideal for monitoring clean-in-place (CIP) solutions and
deionizer regenerant concentrations.

Did You Know

? THORNTON conductivity
systems are routinely used
by other instrument suppliers as the
reference to provide traceability when
calibrating their instrumentation.

Conductivity Standard Solutions

Provided for sensor verification and recalibration, conductivity standards are pro-
duced, analyzed and documented in the Mettler-Toledo Thornton ISO9001 certified
facility with processes similar to those used to calibrate high accuracy THORNTON
conductivity sensors. They are provided with label and certificate with lot number,
certified value, expiration date, plus ASTM and NIST traceability data. These stan-
dards are analyzed and used at equilibrium with the atmosphere.

THORNTON Pure Light
Simple Water Quality Indication
Water Quality

NEW! 656 Pure Light

Water Quality Indicator with Timer

The Pure Light is a go/no-go indicator for the quality of pure water from purification
systems including service deionization, reverse osmosis, and distillation. Under nor-
mal conditions, the green light is illuminated, indicating that the water is in the
acceptable purity range. When the purity falls below the user selected set point, the
indicator light switches from green to red. The user can activate the time function to
also alarm based on time and prevent organic or biological fouling of the system.
This easy to interpret, go/no-go, signal alerts the user to take appropriate action.

Features/Benefits

- Low voltage operation - the indicator operates on 6 VAC.

- Five ranges, user-selectable - jumper permits the user to select the acceptable purity
level threshold to meet the application. Threshold limit can be re-set as needed to
one of the following five settings.
Restivity Conductivity
50 k -cm 20 S / cm
200 k -cm 5 S / cm
500 k -cm 2 S / cm
1 M-cm 1 S / cm
2 M -cm 0.05 S / cm

- BioFouling Timer - includes selectable timer that indicates the elapse of 90 or 180
days since the last servicing.

- Dual Mounting Threads - supplied with two mounting threads of 1/2 NPT and
9/16 -12 for convience and reduced inventory.

- Multiple lights, one transformer - up to three Pure Lights can be operated from one
120V transformer which has screw terminals. Only one electrical outlet is required
to monitor multiple points. Each light for 120V is supplied with a 10 ft (3 m)
connecting wire.

- Red & green LEDs - for reliability, two bright Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are used
to indicate above or below threshold status, representing the need for regeneration
or replacement of ion exchange resin.

System Suitability Testing

Since the THORNTON 5000TOCe sensor provides continuous monitoring capability, the System Suitability Test can be
performed far faster than other TOC measurement technologies which rely on lengthy batch measurement or labora-
tory analysis. In addition, during the System Suitability Test, the operation of the instrument is identical to normal
operating conditions with no extra oxidation cycle times, no chemicals and no alteration of existing protocols
required. The solutions are easily introduced into the system, and results are available in minutes. The System Suit-
ability Test Kit from THORNTON provides the equipment needed to perform a system suitability test on the 5000TOCe
Sensor.
Components contained in this kit include a bracket assembly, transfer cap assembly,
assorted fittings, pump and universal power supply. The System Suitability Test Kit is
designed for use with the System Suitability Standards Solutions Kit available from
THORNTON. The Solutions Kit includes one bottle of 500 ppb sucrose, one bottle of
500 ppb 1,4 benzoquinone and two bottles of reagent TOC water. The solutions are pro-
duced from USP Reference Standards for assured consistency, quality and compliance.

Flexibility in Meeting Process Requirements

Mettler-Toledo Thornton housings provide a fixed NPT or solvent weld process

connection. For easy access to the electrode for cleaning, calibration or replace-
ment, they have internal o-ring seals with hand-tightened mounting nut. The
compact METTLER TOLEDO electrode design includes measuring, reference and
fast-responding temperature compensator functions so only a single process
connection is ever needed.
Housings should be mounted to orient the tip of the electrode at least 15 below
horizontal to assure reliable contact of internal electrolyte with the measuring
membrane. They should not be mounted horizontally or upside-down.

Sanitary Flow Sensors

High Quality, Precision

Thorntons 325-Series Compact Sanitary Turbine Flow Sensors provide another choice
for applications demanding 3A sanitary certification and efficient flow measurement.
325-series flow sensors feature a compact flow sensor body with Tri-Clamp type
connections and a magnetic variable reluctance type coil.

Specifications
Wetted Parts Body 316 SS, Ra 32 microinch (0.8 micrometer) finish;
17-4PH SS rotor; PH 15-7 Mo SS retaining rings; hard carbon
composite bearings.
Certification 3A Rated, manufactures calibration and materials certificates
included.
Electrical connections Smart models have 0.5 m (1.5 ft) cable and require patch
cords, maximum length 91 m (300 ft). Pulse input models
