Exercise #1 Working with Formatting and Data Entry

Step #1 Open Microsoft Excel:


Step #2 Enter Worksheet Title

In the blank worksheet, click in Cell A1 and type in the Title show below

Step #3 Enter Column Headers and Resize Header Row

Click in Cell A2 to select it


In Cell A2, type in Stock and then press Tab key to move to Cell B2
In Cell B2, type in Symbol and then press Tab key to move to Cell C2
In Cell C2, type in Date Acquired and then press Tab key to move to Cell D2
In Cell D2, type in Shares and then press Tab key to move to Cell E2
In Cell E2, type in Initial and then press ALT+Enter keys to move second line of cell
Type in Price and then press Tab key to move to Cell F2
Note: Row Height automatically adjusts to two lines in Cell C2
In Cell F2, type in Current Price and then Enter key to go to next row
If needed, use Cell Pointer to select/highlight Cells C2 and F2
Go to Format menu  Cell  Alignment tab  check Wrap Text
Click Okay button

Step #5 Add Text Data to the Worksheet


Use the Cell Pointer to select Cells A3 thru B7
Enter Stock and Symbol column information shown below
Press the Tab key after every entry to move next cell in row and then down to next row
After entering the last Symbol entry, click in Cell C3 to move to next section
When finished entering data, use the Cell Pointer to widen Column A

Step #6 Add Value Data to the Worksheet


Use the Cell Pointer to select Cells C3 thru F7
Enter the Date Acquired, Shares, Initial Price and Current Price shown below
Press Enter key on number pad after every entry to move to next cell in column
and then next column
After entering the last column of data, click in Cell G3 to move to next section

Step #7 Save the Microsoft Excel Worksheet


Go to the File menu and select Save feature
In the Save As dialog box, select My Documents folder
Change name of worksheet to Stock Portfolio and click on Save button

Exercise #2 Working with Formulas

Step #1 Insert Additional Columns and Formulas into Worksheet


Click in any cell in Column F (Current Price)
Go to the Insert menu and select Column
Click in Cell F2 and type in Initial Cost

Press Enter Key to move to next cell in column, Cell F3


In Cell F3, use the Point Mode to create the formula =D3*E3
Use the AutoFill method to add the Formula to the rest of the cells in the column

Step #2 Add and Format Additional Columns


Click in the following cells and add the following information:
Cell H2 Current Value
Cell I2 Gain/Loss
Cell J2 % Gain/Loss
Wrap text in cells H2 through J2, if not already done for you.

Step #3 Add Formulas to Cells in Multiple Columns using AutoFill


Add the following formulas using the Keyboard or Point Mode:
Cell H3 Formula: =D3*G3
Cell I3 Formula: =H3-F3
Cell J3 Formula: =I3/F3
Highlight Cells H3 through J3, and use AutoFill to add formulas to remaining cells
Select Cells J3 thru J7, and use Standard Toolbar to reformat cells to Percentage Style

Step #4 Save the Changes to the Microsoft Excel Worksheet


Go to the Standard Toolbar and click on the Save button

Step #5 Add Text Data to the Worksheet


Use the Cell Pointer to select Cell A8
In Cell A8, type in Total
In Cell A9, type in Average
In Cell A10, type in Highest
In Cell A11, type in Lowest

Step #6 Insert SUM Formulas Using the AutoSum Button on the Standard Toolbar
Use the Cell Pointer to select Cell F8
Go to Standard Toolbar and click once on the AutoSum button*
*Note: be careful not to double-click
Push the Tab or Enter button to complete the AutoSum
Use the Cell Pointer to select Cells H8 and I8
Click once on the AutoSum button to place formulas in both cells simultaneously

Step #7 Insert a Function Formula Using the Formula Toolbar


Use the Cell Pointer to select Cell D9

On the Formula toolbar, click on the Insert Function (Fx) button


In Insert Function dialog box, type in calculate average in search for a function box
In Select Function section of dialog box, select AVERAGE and click on Okay button
In Function Argument dialog box, select or confirm selection of Cells D3 thru D7
Click on the Okay button to enter formula return to worksheet

Step #8 Insert a Function Formula Using the Standard Toolbar


Use the Cell Pointer to select Cell D10
On Standard Toolbar, click on down arrow next to AutoSum button
From list of functions, select MAX
Use the Cell Pointer to modify the cell range to Cells D3 thru D7
Press the Tab key to enter the formula
Use the Cell Pointer to select Cell D11 and use same process to add MIN formula

Step #9 Copy Formulas to a Range of Cells Using AutoFill Feature


Select Cells D9 thru D11
Use the AutoFill feature to drag the formulas through columns to Cells J9 thru J11
Select the value in Cell J9* and press Delete key on keyboard
*these values cannot be averaged

Select cells J10 and J11 and use Standard Toolbar to reformat cells to Percentage Style

Step #10 Formatting the Title Cell/Row of Worksheet for Printing


Use the Mouse Pointer to select the worksheet title and Cells A1 thru J1
Got to the Formatting Toolbar and click on the Merge and Center button
Go to the Format menu and select Cells
In Format Cell dialog box, click on Font tab and make the following changes:
Font Type Rockwell
Font Style Bold
Font Size 16 point
Font Color White
Click on Okay button to return to worksheet
Go to Formatting toolbars Borders button and make the following changes

Use Fill Color button to change background Color Cell to A1 to Light Blue
Use Borders button to select and apply Thick Box Border

Step #11 Formatting the Text and Value Data in Worksheet for Printing
Select Cells A2 thru J2 (Column Titles) and use Formatting Toolbar to format as
follows:
Font Style Bold
Horizontal Alignment Center
Border Thick Bottom Border
Use Cell Pointer and the Formatting Toolbar to make the following format changes
Center Data in Column B
Change Numbers in Cells E3 thru I11 to Currency style
Use Border button to add Thick Border on bottom of Row 7
Step #12 Save the Changes to the Microsoft Excel Worksheet
Go to the Standard Toolbar and click on Save button to save changes

Step #13 Click on File and then Page Setup.


 Click on the Header/Footer tab.
 Click the button for Custom Header.
 In the right section, type Your Name.
 Click OK. Click OK again on the Page Setup window.

Step #14 Save Changes and Print your Worksheet.
