Crown BUCCAL ASPECT
There two buccal cusps
DB MB
MB is the larger
A developmental depression dividing them
MBCR
(not a groove) extends over to the buccal
surface.
M-D outlines converge cervically
( distally more than mesially)
The cervical line convex toward the root particularly
over the mesial root Roots:
[mesiobuccal cervical ridge is prominent] M-D roots
Crown is shorter distally than mesially
Lingual Aspect
Lingual surface narrower due to proximal
convergence (mesially more than distally)
The Mesiolingual cusp:
ML
- longe DL
- prominent with sharp tip.
The Distolingual cusp: rounded.
Both cusps are separated by a groove.
Mesial marginal ridge: highly developed .
Crown length : almost equal mesially and
distally .
Mesial Aspects
Crown
Crown length : bucally > lingually
The most characterstic feature from
the mesial aspect is the extreme
curvature of buccal outlines ( MBCR).
the lingual outline of the crown extends
out lingually beyond the confines of the
root base.
the buccal cusps are placed over the
root base,
Mesial Aspects
Roots :
The outline of the mesial root from the
mesial aspect does not resemble the outline
of any other primary tooth root.
The buccal and lingual outlines of the root
are straight & approximately parallel
Tapering only slightly at the apical third,
The root end is flat and almost square.
A developmental depression usually extends
almost the full length of the root on the
mesial side
Distal Aspects
The length of crown buccally and
lingually is almost equal.
The DB cusp and the DL cusp are
not as long or as sharp as the two
mesial cusps.
The distal marginal ridge is not
highly defined
The distal root is rounder and
shorter and tapers more apically.
Occlusal Aspect

It is rhomboidal in shape.
MBCR is very prominent .
MBCR
The mesiolingual cusp is the
largest cusp.
CROWN: BUCCAL ASPECT
The primary mandibular second molar has
characteristics resembling those of the B MB
DB
permanent mandibular first molar,
but it is smaller.
Three cusps nearly equal in size.
The three cusps are separated by grooves,
MB d. g.
DB d.g.
Roots: M- D
Lingual Aspect
CROWN
Lingually, there two almost equal
cusps.
Mesial part of the crown longer than
distal .
Parts of buccal cusps may be seen.
Mesial Aspect
Crown:
Shape: rhomboid ( like all posterior teeth).
Promienant cervical ridge.
Lingual outline: extend lingually beyond
root line
More constricted : occlusal surface.
Tip of MB cusp : over root base.
MMR: highly developed.
ML cusp is longer MB
Mesial root:
Broad &flat
With blunt and sometimes end
Distal Aspect
The distal surface is
Narrower
&MB cusps can be seen.
: shorter& at lower
level

Root:
Broad , flat
Taper more at the apical
end
Occlusal Aspect
Rectangular
The crown converge lingually B outline
(MD width bucally larger than MB DB
lingually)
Outlines of the crown
converge distally
MMR highly developed than
DMR.
Distal Triangle Fossa
not so well defined as
mesial fossa
