D. TEST PROCEDURE AND CHECKLIST

PRESSURE:
On special
request from the Buyer, nitrogen gas is sometimes used instead of dry SAES-P-121
D1
air. When this is the case, a well visible sign with that information is fixed Sec. 3.2
to the tank.
Refer to Manufacturer's Recommendation.

A pressure gauge and filling cock unit is fitted under a protective cover in
one of the openings on the side or the top of the tank. There is either a
transparent cover, through which the pressure gauge may be read
SAES-P-121
D2 without, or a steel cover properly marked. The pressure gauge has a
Sec. 3.2
range 0-60 KPa (0-0.6 atmospheres, 0-10 PSI).
Refer to Manufacturer's Recommendation and 14-SAMSS-531, Sec.
5.1.4.

The tank has been filled with dry air to a slight over-pressure in the
factory. It is important that the transformer remains perfectly sealed
during shipment and storage. The gas-filling overpressure shall be
monitored at intervals. Instructions about this, and report forms, are SAES-P-121
D3
enclosed in the "Shipping Manual" in the mailbox on the side of the tank. Sec. 3.2
The reading of the transportation gas pressure gauge shall not be less
than 5KPa or as per manufacturer's instruction.
Refer to Manufacturer's Recommendation.

The original filling in the factory is made to a pressure of 20 KPa (0.2 at,
3 PSI) at a temperature of about 20C (65-70F). This pressure will
change with the ambient temperature. If, at an inspection, the pressure
is completely lost, there may have been under-pressure at some time
SAES-P-121
D4 ( due to a sudden temperature drop), and rain water may have been
Sec. 3.2
sucked in.
Note: Complete loss of gas-filling pressure must therefore be reported
back immediately to manufacturer for further action.
Manufacturer's Recommendation.

If the pressure read on the gauge is not completely lost, but has fallen
below 5 KPa (0.05 at, about 1 PSI), then the tank shall be filled up from SAES-P-121
D5
a pressure bottle of dry air to the original reading of about 20 Kpa. Sec. 3.2
Refer to Manufacturer's Recommendation.
STORAGE:
When the
SAES-P-121
D6 transformer is stored for a considerable time, the filling pressure shall be
Sec. 3.2
checked and recorded once a month.
Manufacturer's Recommendation.
Check possible leakages, if the transformer has been stored for more
SAES-P-121
D7 than two months after assembly, all sealing joints must be re-tightened.
Sec. 3.2
Refer to Manufacturer's Recommendation.
HANDLING:
During handling
SAES-P-121
D8 of power transformer, the tank shall be pressurized as per
Sec. 3.2
manufacturer's recommendation.
Refer to Manufacturer's Recommendation.
INSTALLATION:
During
SAES-P-121
D9 installation and after mounting on concrete pad, the tank shall be
Sec. 3.2
pressurized as per manufacturer's recommendation.
Refer to Manufacturer's Recommendation.
