Intro to standards 10 and 11

Task #1- Read through both of the standards. What are they asking
us to do? Why do teachers need to know this information?

10) Investigate relevant national and state curriculum standards, and explain how
they help guide teaching in order to affect learning. (TN Reading 1, 6)

11) Working collaboratively in pairings or small teams, gather and analyze


Tennessee course content requirements in different subject areas and grade levels.
Compare and contrast examples of student learning objectives and performance
indicators from different subject areas and grade levels. Analyze the extent to which
each provides teachers with necessary expectations for instruction. Choose a
specific standard to rewrite for clarity and measurability

The standard is asking Teachers/ Students to evaluate the regular and state
standards of course content, and what they expect the requirements to be.

Task #2 Define these commonly used terms for this unit.


1. National Standards- All states and schools will have challenging and clear
standards of achievement and accountability for all children, and effective strategies for
reaching those standards
2. State Standards- The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led
effort coordinated by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the
Council of Chief State School Officers.
3. Learning objectives- Statements that define the expected goal of
a curriculum, course, lesson or activity interms of demonstrable skills or
knowledge that will be acquired by a student as a result of instruction.
4. Performance indicators- is a type of performance measurement.
5. Expectations for instruction- Do your work in classrooms.

Task #3 Explain the difference between a learning objective and state


standards.
Learning objectives are statements that define the expected goal of a curriculum,
course, lesson or activity that is demonstrable skills or knowledge that will be acquired by a
student as a result of instruction. Also known as : Instructional objectives, learning outcomes,
learning goals. And the The Common Core State Standards Initiative is an educational initiative
in the United States that details what K12 students should know in English language arts and
mathematics at the end of each grade.
