What Music means to you?

Music brings value and stimulate our lives. It can be used in various ways,
either it can get you motivated, or it can calm you down. I believe that
music begins even at the time of conception in a human life. Music has been
in life from the beginning, at family gatherings my parents would laughed
about, what song was playing in the background when I was conceived. If
not at that time, then I am sure my mom was encouraged as a pregnant
woman to sing or play music to her unborn fetus. Music has been a part of
my cultural and biological heritage. Culturally, music is played at every
family gathering, and at almost of all our social events, whether its at
church or a program at school. I believe the biological connection and how
music is relevant in our family lives is when we are looking at our genetic
makeup. I believe that people are gifted with certain talents and gifts, for
our family its music. We have a lot family members who are musically
inclined, whether its singing, playing instruments or dancing music has been
a major part of our lives.

Please discuss the ways in which music empowers you

I can remember as young as 8 years old, when my mom gave us a list of

chores to do on a Saturday morning, my brothers, sister and I would crank
up the music and before you knew it the chores where completed. The music
empowered us to get motivated and it energized us to clean and get the task
done. There have been times, when I was stressed out and dealing with a lot
of challenges and soft slow music or gospel music brought calmness. I have
found that the lyrics of songs, can sometimes help you to understand and
relate to others. Because it allows us to see that we are not the only one
that have felt that emotions or we have been in that situation.

Please discuss what types of music you prefer, and the reason for
this choice?

My family has made fun of me for years, because my choice of music over
the years I have been from country to reggae, from rhythm and blues to
pop, from jazz to gospel. I am able to adapt to the environment that Im in.
If I had to make a selection in music, my selection of music, would be based
on my mood and the happenings in my life. I recognized that music plays a
huge role in my life and I listen to music every day.
