I. Given your insights on this case and considering that you are a medical student
and a future health professional, consider the classroom discussions and

A. Core and priority for health program development

In my opinion, the primary problem leading to a chain of health risks is the

lack of knowledge about health care and prevention of diseases. All the other
problems in the community described can be solved if there will be proper
education on taking care of their health and environment. For me, this
should be the focus of the health program development.

II. Double burden of the disease for the Philippines

According to World Health Organization, of the five leading causes of
morbidity, four are communicable diseases (diarrhoea, bronchitis, pneumonias
and influenza), and the fifth is hypertension. The prevalence of communicable
diseases is still very high, while that of non-communicable diseases is
increasing and will continue to do so. This double burden of disease places a
great toll on the health and economy of the people and of the nation as a
whole.
As a second year medical student and a future health care provider, I will
start within myself by being a good example to other people in maintaining a
healthy lifestyle. I will also do my best to influence others and teach those who
have lack of knowledge about health care based on the things that I have
learned in school and in my own experiences.
