ACTIVITY PLAN
1. Vocabulary Strategy(ies):
Monday-
Clustering:
I will play a recording of a performer showcasing the legato technique and
each student will create a cluster to describe what they hear. The students will
share their clusters in a group and discuss their thoughts. Lastly, the entire
class will work together to create a definition for legato before they look at the
textbook definition. We will do this by making one large cluster on the board
and forming a cohesive definition that everybody agrees on.
Personal Glossary:
Students will add new vocabulary terms to their personal glossary.

2. Comprehension Strategy(ies):
Monday-Friday-
Slicing:
I will be breaking down each chapter of the text into small lectures and reading
activities each day of the week.

Tuesday-
KWL Charts:
Pre-reading activity designed to activate prior knowledge. Students make a chart
where they list what they Know, what they Want to Know, and what they
Learned at the end of the lesson.
I will have the students create a KWL on Beethoven. This would be used to
prepare them for learning about the composer. I will instruct students to fill in
the Learned portion little by little every day as an Exit Slip assignment, with
the days of the week clearly specified.

3. Writing Strategy(ies):
Friday-
Biopoems:
Students use a structured template of a poem that includes important information
about an important person or topic.
I will have the students create a biopoem on Beethoven. They will use the
following criteria for the poem: first name, four traits that describe the
character, relative of, love or, who feels, who needs, who fears, who gives,
who would like to see, resident of, and last name.

4. Discussion Strategy(ies):
Thursday-
Personal Narratives:
Students write or share a personal experience that relates to a given topic or text.
I will have the students share their related personal experiences. First they will
discuss in small groups, and then we will have a whole class discussion. This
activity would serve as a discussion and comprehension strategy because the
students have to reflect on the life of Beethoven in order to then look
introspectively at their own lives and think about how they can relate.
The class will then have a discussion about how these experiences can
pervade the work that we do, and the work that Beethoven did as a musician.

5. Assessment Strategy(ies):
Monday-Friday
Formative Assessment: Exit slip learned portion of the KWL

Wednesday-
Formative assessment: group playing test on sections of the symphony.
