To Whom It May Concern:

Over 11 million people are currently suffering in Syria, and are in urgent need of our help. Im Gloria
Stepanyuk, a student currently studying at Antelope High School. I think current law makers decision should
be to take in Syrian refugees despite the backlashes against the U.S.

Syrias civil war is in the worst humanitarian crisis of our time, and families are struggling to survive
inside Syria and are forced to flee their homes. There has been conflict regarding whether countries should or
should not take these millions of Syrian refugees in because of the issue regarding ISIS -a Muslim terrorist
group. This refugee crisis is quite similar to the attitudes during World War II about Jewish refugees.

There are concerning similarities between todays Syrian refugee crisis and the Jewish refugee
crisis back then. During World War II, the U.S. limited refugees that were fleeing Europe because of
prejudice that was going on against the Jews and the fear of hidden spies or planted agents among
Jewish refugees. This is quite similar to the fears of people who are against the admission of Syrian
Refugees today. A public opinion poll in 1938 showed that Americans overwhelmingly rejected
admission of German Jews, showing the similarities between the two crisis's (Newsela). The majority
of those Jews were later killed. Messinger, a doctor in Buffalo, explained that the Jews did not pose
any threat to the U.S. and that it is really unforgivable, but because of irrational fear prejudice, the
U.S. failed to make the right decision that could have saved millions of Jewish lives from the murder
of German Nazis (Newsela). We should learn from this mistake and take in Syrian refugees that are
currently struggling for a better life. These instances should make the decision clear and that taking in
Syrian refugees is the right thing to do.

I agree with Democratic Representative Luis Gutierrezs decision of taking in refugees

considering the mistakes we have made before. We should learn from the past mistakes and regard
assumptions that before, proved to be wrong. We as America, should go with our values and help
those people whose lives are at stake.

Judging from the past and the current situation now, the government should see the decision to accept
the admission of Syrian Refugees as the right one. I believe that accepting these people into our country will
