Unit 4: Malaysian
Legends

In The Classroom
Jasleen and her classmates have had heard the legendary stories
from their teacher, Miss Sharmila. These stories are fantastic and
contained exemplary moral values.
Jasleens favourite is the legend of Mahsuri. She felt pity for her
for being accused of something she didnt do. Her curse upon Langkawi
proved her innocence. She was only a victim of hatred and jealousy.
Sigat, being a Sarawakian, is more interested in the legend of
Bujang Senang. He likes the story because he can relate it to his cultures.
He even knew the places mentioned in the legend.
May Lee, on the other hand, prefers the legend of Cik Siti Wan
Kembang. She finds the story more realistic with the proofs of her
existence. She also likes it because it inspires her to be a strong individual
despite of every day challenges that we all face nowadays.
