PAPER WORK ENGLISH WEEK 2015

INTRODUCTION

The English Week is held in conjunction with Pusat Sumber Sekolah (PSS)
week on 2nd of October 2015. The English Week, organized by the English
Panel, offers a number of interesting language-based activities for all the
SJK(T) Ladang Padang Meiha pupils. The activities are designed to take into
account the learning and development of the whole child, rather than simply
to provide a series of recipes for narrowly focused language practice.

OBJECTIVES

The activities conducted are based on several objectives:

i. To promote the use of English Language in fun and communicative
ways;
ii. To encourage the participation and co-operation through the group
activities;
iii. To nurture positive spirits among the pupils;
iv. To provide holistic, sufficient and equal opportunities to the pupils in
practising
the language; and
v. To instil interest among the pupils to participate in participated in
activities related to English Language.

The pupils were assessed on their ability to find the list words in the words maze
by colouring the words. Through this activity the pupils learnt the correct spelling
as well as learning new vocabulary. Most of the pupils were able to complete the
task with the time given.

The pupils were assessed on their ability to find the list words in the words maze
by colouring the words. Then, they need to use the words to label the given
pictures. Finally, they are needed to use the words to fill in the blanks to
complete the sentences. Most of the pupils were confused with the first picture.
They labelled the picture as playing instead of flying. Some of them were
unable to finish the task given within the allocated time.

Pupils were needed to draw the pictures based on the sentences given. The
marks given are based on their accuracy not the quality of the drawing. Pupils
were enjoyed doing this activity as well as they learnt the grammar in context
not through drilling.

Pupils need to roll the giant dice. Then, they move to the box according to the
number appears on the dice. They must answer the questions before they roll
the dice again. They will miss their turn if they are unable to answer the
questions correctly. Based on the observations done, most pupils were enjoyed
playing this game. However, pupils in 5 Amanah encountered problems to guess
the jobs. The game should be conducted with less number of participants as well
as adding more questions for the pupils to answer.

Pupils are given a picture of Bobs Home. Based on the picture, they answer
several questions. Most pupils were confused and answered wrongly for the first
question. Besides that, they also answered the questions using words or phrases
instead of answering the questions in full sentences. Explicit instructions and
example should be given to the pupils as this activity quite unfamiliar to them.

For Level 1 pupils, they spelled the words given by applying the phonics method
followed by the actions that represent the letters. While, for Level 2 pupils, they
spelled the words through Whole Words Approach. Marks awarded based on their
fluency and accuracy. Pupils were given one minute with two chances to spell the
words.

Through this activity, it measures the pupils ability in listening and responding
to the instructions given by the teachers. In addition, it also nurtures the
creativity among the pupils in producing a puppet for performance. Winners were
selected based on their creativity and neatness.
