Benefit
To review and make modifications
to encourage students to dig deeper
when discussing text. I will now
conference with students more
before they meet together to help
them to prepare for discussion.
To help students to approach
discussion with supporting point of
view with reasoning skills.
Observing the students allowed me
to plan for how to get students to
ask deeper questions. Students
were asked to provide feedback
after their discussion on how the
questions helped them to think and
respond.
These are some first steps for
helping me to reframe questioning
techniques from starting with
questions to starting with topics
and teaching students to formulate
their own questions.
Through instructing students on the
use of this strategy, students were
to develop questions from
statements. This activity led to

Students were evaluating their
questions and had a discussion on
how their questioning was
connected to their research on
inventions and helped them to
determine what the reader needed
to know.
3-20-2017 Students developed questions from
their accelerated reading and
participated in a discussion group
Students compared and contrasted
two different perspectives on the
4-20-2017 same topic and debated which
experience was more challenging
by providing support from their
readings as evidence.

students digging deeper when

Students gained a deeper
understanding of how they could
develop their research. My students
are now automatically volunteering
questions when they are completing
work! I am now also including
more of their questions rather than
my questions!
Students are able to create their
own meaningful questions that are
open ended and appropriate for
discussion.
Students were engaged as they had
to prove which experience was
more challenging. Both experiences
were challenging which made this
discussing challenging for the
students to defend their point of
view.
