CROP LOSSES
*Crop protection
has been developed for the prevention
and control of crop losses due to pests in
the field (pre-harvest losses) and during storage
(post-harvest losses).
CROP LOSSES
*Quantitative crop losses data
As essential to :
Evaluating the efficacy of crop protection practices,
Assessing systems sustainability,
Making better decisions for IPM,
Evaluating the effectiveness of pest and disease
Regulation as an ecosystem service.

CONCLUSION
Crop losses to weeds, animal pests, pathogens and
viruses continue to reduce available production of
food and cash crops worldwide.

The concept of the threshold-based application of pest

control measures is associated with the acceptance
of crop losses and may be used successfully for an
economically and ecologically crop production.
CONCLUTION
Efforts to estimate yield losses have increased in the
last decades, but most of them concentrated in annual
crops and focused on primary yield losses.

The usefulness of this contribution for further studies

is that once the yield losses are estimated, economic
losses can be deduced and the main causes of
losses identified, allowing the farmer to take
corrective actions.
