Title of the Lesson: Magna Carta BrainPop Notes and Quiz

Summary: Students will be able to understand how the Magna Carta limited the powers of monarchs in Europe and gave citizens more rights. They will also be able to write a summary answering the essential question by using the notes they take when watching the BrainPop video. Grade Level: 7 Time Frame: 50 minutes Subject: World History- The Renaissance Objectives: Students will: Analyze the Magna Carta through the lens of an essential question. Conduct collaborative research and share findings both verbally and in writing. Standards: 7.8 Students analyze the origins, accomplishments, and geographic diffusion of the Renaissance. Essential Questions: 1. How did the Magna Carta change the power of the monarch? Materials: Spiral Notebook, Computer, Google Classroom, and BrainPop.com Sequence of Activities: 1. Warm Up: Students will log on to Google Classroom and answer the warm up question Who is this? What do you know about this person? List as much information as you can on two images, the Mona Lisa and Leonardo di Vinci (10 minutes) 2. BrainPop Whole Group Movie: Students will watch the BrainPop movie Magna Carta as a whole group first.( 5 minutes) 3. BrainPop Individual Notes: Students will rewatch the video on their own device and take notes about the Magna Carta. They will focus on the 5 Ws, who, what, when, where, and why. Before the next activity, we will do a note check as a whole group to check for understanding. ( 15 minutes) 4. BrainPop Quiz: Students will take the BrainPop Quiz on the Magna Carta and will write down the questions they got wrong in their notebook (5 minutes) 5. Renaissance Cover Page: I will give the students ideas for their Renaissance title page they need to create in their spiral notebook and they will have the remainder of the period to plan/start their title page. (10 minutes) 6. Exit Ticket: Students will answer the question, List two things you learned and one thing you still want to know about the Magna Carta on Google Classroom before they exit. ( 5 minutes )

Accommodations, Adaptations, and Differentiated Instruction:
There will be two choices for formatting their notes in their spiral notebook, cornell notes or a 5 Ws table Students will compare their notes with a partner and be able to share out giving all students opportunity to hear multiple student answers Warm Up question can be interpreted in many different ways, so there is no wrong answer Students will have opportunity to do a note check at some point during the period to make sure they understood the main ideas
