COURSE OVERVIEW

Eurocode 7 is the new European standard for geotechnical design. This course explains how the code differs
from traditional practice and other standards in the Eurocode suite. It concentrates on the design
fundamentals, which engineers need to understand before attempting detailed design. Practical tutorials
show delegates how to apply the fundamental Principles embodied in Eurocode 7.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES


On completion, delegates will have a sound knowledge of the principles of Eurocode 7 and be able to apply
them to simple geotechnical designs.

The course can also be delivered in house, by prior arrangement.

PRE-REQUISITES
Delegates should have a basic understanding of geotechnical design, but no prior knowledge of the
Eurocodes is necessary

This course provides a thorough introduction to Eurocode 7 Part 1.


This course is required prior to attending the Design courses.

GROUND INVESTIGATION AND TESING


COURSE OBJECTIVE

Eurocode 7 Part 2 is the current European and British standard for ground investigation and testing. This
course explains how the code differs from traditional practice. This course concentrates on the particular
requirements for planning investigations, reporting, and deriving characteristic values for design. Practical
tutorials show delegates how to scope and investigation and obtain parameters from it to Eurocode 7.

On completion, delegates will have a sound knowledge of the principles of Eurocode 7 Part 2 and be able
to apply them when planning ground investigation and deriving characteristic values for design.

Covering Eurocode 7 part 2. This course provides a thorough


introduction to Eurocode 7 Part 2, looking especially at the ground
characterization and reporting requirements of the new design
standard.

About the Facilitator
ABOU
Our Facilitator is Chairman of CEN TC250/SC7, the committee responsible for developing and maintaining
Eurocode 7.He is also the Institution of Civil Engineers representative on B/526, the BSI committee that looks after
British Standards for geotechnics. He was a member of the IStructE committee that prepared the National Strategy
for Implementation of the Structural Eurocodes (2004) and a member of the steering committee for CIRIA C641
EC7 - implications for UK practice.

He lead author of the highly successful book Decoding Eurocode 7 published by Taylor and Francis, London, in
2008. He is also co-author of Chapter 7 of the BSIs publication PP1990 Extracts from the Structural Eurocodes for
students of structural design (2004, 2007, and 2010); the Concrete Centres 2006 guide How to design concrete
structures using Eurocode 2; and BSIs Structural Eurocodes Companion (2009).

He has delivered numerous public training courses on the Structural Eurocodes, both through his own company
and for other providers, such as the Institution of Structural Engineers, Professional Solutions, Thomas Telford, the
Singapore Building Construction Authority, and the University of Cape Town. He delivered the Eurocodes Expert
Roadshows 2005, to audiences exceeding 300 civil and structural engineers. He has given evening lectures on the
topic to various ICE and IStructE regional groups.
