Ofallthetopicscoveredinthischapterfactoringpolynomialsisprobablythemostimportanttopic.There
aremanysectionsinlaterchapterswherethefirststepwillbetofactorapolynomial.So,ifyoucantfactor
thepolynomialthenyouwontbeabletoevenstarttheproblemletalonefinishit.

Letsstartoutbytalkingalittlebitaboutjustwhatfactoringis.Factoringistheprocessbywhichwego
aboutdeterminingwhatwemultipliedtogetthegivenquantity.Wedothisallthetimewithnumbers.For
instance,hereareavarietyofwaystofactor12.


Therearemanymorepossiblewaystofactor12,butthesearerepresentativeofmanyofthem.
