Summary of the Event (at least 3 major points; each point will have its own paragraph)
A. Women from all over the country gathered in Washington on January 21, 2017 to protest
the inauguration of President Donald Trump. They protested with signs and wore pussy
hats, which were pink hats that were knitted by women at the protest. There were
hundreds of thousands of protesters at Washington alone, and hundreds of thousands
more throughout the globe.
B. Actresses and singers such as Janelle Monae and Scarlett Johansson gave speeches along
with feminist icons such as Gloria Steinman. They spoke about their experiences with
sexism and racism, even using their daughters as a hope for a better future.
C. The Trump family ignored the protest, going an opposite direction to the National Prayer
Service. Trump used the numbers of the people at the march as the numbers for the
people that showed up to the inaugural speech, lying blatantly about supporters.
Your Opinion of the Event (at least 3 sentences).
I think that Trump lying about how many people liked him on his first day of office was a
good starting example of what the presidency was going to look like. The fact that
women around the world march for the rights of women in America is amazing and
empowering. The idea of women gathering to fight the hatred and stupidity with love and
passion and a take-charge attitude makes me extremely proud to identify as a woman and
have such amazing and powerful sisters in this day and age.
Relate your Event to a Historical Event (compare and contrast with current event).
The Womens March on Versailles was another event where many women came together
to protest the wrongdoings of men. The women marched to Versailles to confront the
king about the high price and scarcity of bread. This relates to the current event because
women all over the world revolted against the dictator that wanted to take their rights
away. They demanded justice, made a scene, and fought for themselves; as did the
women of Versailles.
