This report is designed to reflect a perspective of Introduction to Film Making
and is aimed to develop a Comprehensive Film Making Foundation Course(CFFC) at
Capital Education. The course is designed to give hands-on experience in all aspects
of filmmaking and is divided into four modules: -

1. Creative Plunge

2. Shoot em

3. Cut and Colour em

4. Critical Assessment

CFFC is unique in the sense that it allows participants to have one specialization and
two secondary specializations, thus ensuring that the participants procure industry
usable skills in Film Making. Course modules are conducted within a professional
production setting with a specially tailored opportunity for those having a passion
for Film Making and for those looking to enter the Industry. Each module follows the
principle of Experimental Learning and offers the prospect of direct professional
employment for its participants
MODULE 1 Creative Plunge
This module is designed to make the participants feel at home by providing the basics to
Screen Writing, Film Production, Film Direction and Film Sketches.

Screen Writing: The section starts with the brainstorming for story ideas and further
development of the ideas into adept screenplays. (A maximum of FIVE screenplays will
be selected from each course)

Duration 15 hours

Film Sketches: Participants are motivated to make one short film (5 mins) by
collaborating with each other and shooting on any equipment they can find (even mobile
phones!). The films are discussed and the participants assess each other about the pros
and cons of collaboration.

Duration 3 hours

Directors Awake: Direction workshops with Freelance Drama Artists and renowned
Directors.

Duration 3 hours

Producing Basics: Introduction to Scheduling and Budgeting and also to the crew roles
of Creative Producer, Line Producer and Executive Producer.

Duration 3 hours
MODULE 2 Shoot em
This module makes the participants competent in camera and lighting equipment in
conjunction with the industrial rules associated with Film and Crew operations.

Cinematography in theory: Introduction to the crew roles of DoP, AC, Grip, Focus-Puller
and Spark.

Duration 3 hours

Studio Lights: Participants acquire hands on experience in industry standard cameras


and lighting techniques by participating in workshops lead by renowned professionals.

Duration 15 hours

Music and composition: Exposure to facilities to procure professional quality music and
compositions.

Duration 3 hours
MODULE 3 Cut and Colour em
This module is designed to give the participants a fast-paced exposure to editing and
colour correction theory and techniques.

Editing: Theory and practical classes on Video editing using industry standard softwares
such AVID, FCP and PREMIERE.

Duration 15 hours

Colour Correction: Studio visits to work with professionals on colour correction of


FINAL Films

Duration 3 hours
MODULE 4 Critical Assessment
This module is designed to assist in evaluating the acquired skills and expertise in Film
Making from the course and to provide exposure to idea pitching.

Film Screening: Valuation and discussions of FINAL Films where the participants share
their filming experiences. This module will be organised as a FILM FESTIVAL where the
participants can invite their family and friends to witness their achievement.

Duration 5 hours

Dissertation: Write a journal (1500 words) outlining your journey as a Filmmaker


emphasizing on your specialization and FINAL film.
Internship and Industry Exposure Opportunities
1. Internship opportunities for prospective producers in one of the major Film Festival
in MENA area

2. Internship opportunities for prospective DoPs and Editors in international


production houses.

3. Internship opportunities for prospective DoPs in KIT rental facilities

4. Chances for successful Screen Writers to showcase their work in one of the major Film
Festival in MENA area.

5. Opportunity for interested candidates to participate in one of the major Film Festival
in MENA area as Student Filmmakers
