The Sun

By Dominique, Marlea,
and Maria
Spectrum (Spectra)
- Multispectral
- Emits electromagnetic radiation across most of
electromagnetic spectrum
- Travels in electromagnetic waves
- X-rays, UV, visible, IR, and radio waves (all)
- Energy peaks in visible light range

- The shorter the wave, the hotter it is and more E Different features and regions
of the sun are shown in
different views
Its uses
Provides us with solar energy
Solar energy- radiant energy provided by the sun
We use solar energy to heat our homes, cook our food and even simple things such as
charging your cell phone
Heats our earth
We need sunlight to grow our food without it we would not have vegetables,
fruit, etc
The sun basically powers our world
Without the sun our world would be too cold and we would freeze to death,
imagine complete darkness with no light.
History of the Sun
- The sun lies at the heart of the solar system it is by far the largest object.
- The surface of the sun is 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit
- The sun was born around 4.6 billion years ago.
- The sun and its atmosphere are divided into several zones and layers.
- It supposedly orbits 25,000 light years from the galactic core, completing a full
revolution once every 250 million years or so.
- The strength of the suns magnetic field is supposedly twice as strong as the
earths magnetic field.
- Sunspots are featured sporadically on the suns surface, they appear to be
small roughly circular spots.

How it works small scale
Energy excites the e-
The e- jumps to an excited state
E- relaxes back to ground, releasing energy in a form of a photon
All released photons=light we see
