Compared to the other two master courses in which I teach, I can tell the Social Change has
two main strong points. First of all, Tutoring which is carried out in an extremely professional
way. Second, the general atmosphere during courses and classes. The Social Change students all
have different backgrounds but share the same vision and mission: this generates a successful
synergy which is extremely pleasant to experience..

I decided to take the Master as I wanted to work in the Nonprofit sector and I needed some
training in the field. Coming from England this seemed like a good choice compared to other
master courses.... Throughout the year I learnt more about how the Sector works and its very
particular characteristics.
I also had the pleasure of meeting some fantastic people on the course with similar interests and
worked on a project with a very passionate group of like minded individuals.

THE SOCIAL CHANGE SCHOOL

The Social Change School is an international institution based in Spain, Italy, UK and Bangkok.
Most lecturers and trainers come from the UK, Spain, Italy and the learning materials are made in
Europe. The General and the Financial Direction are based in Madrid. Our staff is made up of people
coming from all over the world improving the School with international contacts, tools and vision.
Social Change school didactic model follows a blended formula combining in-class meetings and
highly relational e-learning, which has been developed for 20 years of side by side cooperation
with the organizations and managers in the sector. We do believe that lecturers and the first-hand
experiences are essential for the quality of the training concerning the management and the professional
profiles.
A SHORT STORY OF PMC. The first edition took place in 1998. It was initially called Management
of the Non Profit Organizations and was one of the first masters on this topic in Europe. There was a
strong cultural resistance to management topics (see also The beginning). Being trained as a manager
was considered like conforming to For Profit practices. Nowadays, development cooperation is strongly
increasing; what is needed is project managers able to implement the Project Cycle Management and the
EU funds, as well as organizing the funding mix of a project, and creating social businesses and self-
sustainable projects. The traditional log-frame is reinterpreted according to a result basedmanagement
and outcomes are highlighted as outputs, in order to avoid top-down approaches. For example, building
a well in a village might seem a good output, as local women dont have to walk a long way to find
potable water. Though it has often been shown that this entails negative outcomes, like
seriously limiting social life and freedom of these women.
That is why co-projecting and social innovation are gaining ground.
Directors and partners with international profiles guarantee a wide knowledge of the key-skills at
present, but also in 5-10 years. The Master diploma is an important certification in Europe, the proof
of a serious path with a highly-professional investment. The result in terms of jobs is high: PMC
allows working everywhere in the world and a direct professional market is being opened in those
developing countries starting to directly recruit European professionals able to be the link replacing the
Northern NGOs.
Our students have been working and helping with their qualified contribution in almost all African and
South American countries, while their presence is even more constant in ASIA.
The Social Change School and its partners have been training students determined to become highlyskilled
professionals in the Third Sector for nearly 20 years. This is our main challenge, the mission we carry on
with passion and commitment and the only way to be successful, we believe.

Master Director
Foundation Partnership Manager at COOPI

The Master in Project Management for International Cooperation is one of the main initiatives of the
Social Change School, it started in 1998 and has been constantly updated with new contents and tools
in line with the market of international cooperation. Its mission is to train a generation of social and
active project managers able to combine technical preparation, innovation and enthusiasm mainly across
national borders.
This is a good path for those looking for an excellent work position in the field of cooperation. Much
importance is in fact given to internships, the real way in of this sector. Young graduates, professionals
from other sectors and people looking for a new professional career will find this proposal excellent and
concrete for its contents and training aiming at work inclusion through the wide range and quality of the
internships, proposed within a network of contacts and in cooperation with partnerships created by the
Social Change School through the years.
After the Master experience, each profile is functional for working in national and international NGOs,
involved in international solidarity as well as with European and non-European projecting offices.

BLENDED FORMULA
Tailored both for nonprofit young professionals 6
and for those already working - also in the for profit sector.

The Social Change School didactic model has a blended formula, which has been developed for 20 years
of side by side cooperation with the organizations and their sector managers. We do believe that the
lectures and the live experience are essential for the quality of the training concerning the management
and the professional profiles.

E-LEARNING
Moodle, the best e-learning, open source platform, tailored and conceived to be usable and fun, with forums,
multimedias, tests, chats and a confidential e-mail system. E-learning is mainly asynchronous (with free access to
the platform).

WEBINARS
For each didactic area we offer additional webcasts and tutorials selected by some of our best lecturers who are
experts in these topics. Webinars are live online seminars with the lecturer.

WORKSHOPS
29 Workshops in class in 26 days, distributed in 8 week-ends in Rome, Bruxelles, Madrid, including 3 days of field
experience. Lessons held by lecturers who are experts in the subjects. It is a unique opportunity to take the challenge
on more personal and managerial points of view (Team leadership, public speaking & communication skills,
conflict management, time management and work organisation). Tools, skills and new aptitudes are experimented.
High Level of satisfaction for the in-class meetings with an average ranking of 8.5/10.

TEAM WORK AND PEER ASSESSMENT

Your team will be an essential part of your job and growth. You will work in a team of 3-5 people. In turns,
you will be the leader of your team; the target is to work together during trainings, to support and evaluate each
other. This structure is developed to maximize a number of competencies: cooperation, conflict management, team
building, leadership and performance levels. The evaluation is anonymous, with credits and debts given by the
Team Leaders. A meritocratic system which awards support and cooperation.
The Team Work is one of the most engaging and appreciated experiences in the Social Change Schools Masters
with a 9/10 ranking.

PROJECT WORK
At the end of the master you and your group will present a Project Work. You might then present your project to
an NGO and if approved it can be implemented.

CAREER COACHING
The first step is the admission interview in which strengths, weaknesses and professional opportunities are
outlined. During the Master, you will learn how to better act within the job market. You will have the chance to
relate to the Social Change School staff and with partners for your PROFESSIONAL ACTION PLAN through a
better definition of your DREAM, a personal SWOT and a Professional Plan to be coherent with your strong
points. The path ends with a very important challenge: a simulation of a Job Interview with the Master Director
or HRM. The MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT is one of the core areas of the Career Service.
High level of appreciation for the Social Change Schools Career Service with an average ranking of 9/10.

INTERNSHIP WORLDWIDE
The internship is guaranteed but not mandatory and can be carried out in one of the 200 organizations of the Social
Change School network - amongst the best organizations of the sector. It begins at the end of the Master. It lasts at
least 200 hours and at most 6 month.
About 50% of the Social Change Schools students, once the Internship has been completed, continue to work in
the organization.

TIME STUDY - About 14 hours per week.

PMC PROFESSIONAL PROFILES 7
A Gateway to a successful International Career in the NGOs

All the Professional Profiles and their key skills are co-projected with project managers and
their associations, following international standard. In 2005 ISFOL (Italian Ministery of Labour)
upon request of the Social Change School added the Project Manager in International Cooper-
ation among its Professions with a significant professional recognition to many professionals.

The Masters course was a very important step towards the path of professionalization, which is crucial for any-
one who wants to succeed in a highly competitive and multi-faceted field as the one of international cooperation.
Through my experience I had the chance to relate with lecturers and colleagues with incredibly diverse back-
grounds and different managerial experiences that have been an inspiration for developing skills, easily transfer-
able, essential to create an impact in any field.

PROJECT-PROGRAMME MANAGER FOR DEVELOPMENT

The professional area is Development Cooperation in the Non Profit Sector (it does not include Emergencies and
Humanitarian Aid); especially in NGOs based in Italy with missions abroad. The Project Manager in Development
Cooperation has an inclination to writing and managing projects rather than operating on the field and to dealing
with developing countries rather than Western Countries.

EURO-PROGRAMME MANAGER
The professional range of opportunities is very wide. It ranges from the Non Profit Sector to Public
Administration, from social to local development. The Euro Project Manager with relevant experience is usually a
freelance specialized in a limited number of EU projects with a personal portfolio of partners & clients.

LOCAL DEVELOPMENT AGENT COMMUNITY MANAGER

It is a multidisciplinary role, a planner and project manager within the development projects. He has to be able
to involve all the actors on the field to implement development projects aimed at creating benefits for local
communities.

The Social Change School plays an essential role in developing the right skills of Non Profit

meet wonderful staff and students, people who believe in their dreams and are ready to take
the challenge.
