Gravitational Waves Detected, Confirming Einsteins

Theory

Black Hole- a region of space having a gravitational field so intense that no matter or radiation
can escape.
Gravitational waves- are ripples in the curvature of spacetime that propagate as waves at the
speed of light
Gamma rays- penetrating electromagnetic radiation of a kind arising from the radioactive decay
of atomic nuclei.
Cosmologist- the science of the origin and development of the universe. Modern astronomy is
dominated by the Big Bang theory, which brings together observational astronomy and particle
physics.

Summary of the Event (at least 3 major points; eacoinh pt will have its own paragraph)

A. On Thursday of February 11 2016, a team of scientist announced that they had

heard and recorded the sound of two black holes colliding a billion light-years
away. This recording fulfilled the last prediction of Einsteins general theory of
relativity. In the recording a chirp like sound can be heard, and is the first
evidence of gravitational waves. It has been a century since Einstein predicted
gravitational waves that are ripples in the fabric of space-time. Einstein believed
that space and time are interwoven and dynamic, able to stretch, shrink and
jiggle. Improvements in technology helped Einstein's written out plans and
theory come to life.
B. A report in Physical Review Letters was published with more than 1,000 authors.
The report was published by members of the LIGO group, a worldwide team of
scientists, and scientists from a European team known as the Virgo
Collaboration. The report is over the recent findings of evidence, and is seen as
describing a major breakthrough in physics.
C. Astronomers now know that pairs of black holes do exist in the universe. Stars
lacking elements heavier than the element helium could have grown to huge sizes
and then head straight to a black hole and hit without the explosion of a
supernova. Astronomers have once referred the research of Gravitational waves
as an experiment not an observation.

I Think it's really cool how they found evidence that einstein's theory is true. Hopefully
they find more evidence. Maybe technology will get better and they will be able to find
out a lot more about black holes.

Einstein's theory is that a black hole is region of spacetime exhibiting such strong
gravitational effects that nothing. That nothing can escape from it. The theory of general
relativity predicts that a sufficiently compact mass can deform spacetime to form a black
hole. This theory now has evidence that researcher have found.

Theme Human-Environment Interaction, Science & Technology because over a century

ago Einstein theory was unable to be proved, this may have caused a lot of people to
not believe in the theory. Over the past century advancements in technology may have
helped prove the theory. Without these advancement this theory and many more would
not have been able to be proved.

1. Ever since this evidence have scientist found anything else?

2. Will future technology help scientist found more evidence about Einstein's
theory?
3. How will they improve technology for the better?
4. Will they find new evidence in the near future?
