JESUS- THE CAPTAIN OF THE SHIP

Sabbath school program

Reading----(Our high Calling)pg 56. Oh how many in this time of peril are making the
hard pull against a head sea……..
Song Ship ahoy!
Poem….
Who is the captain of your ship?
As you travel on the sea of life
Who holds the stern with unfailing grip?
As the storm beats the waves of strife

Who is the captain of your ship?

When faith is down and out
When discouragement and fear prepare to rip
Your ship of fear and doubt

Who is the captain of your ship?

When criticism rocks your boat
When unkind words flow from your brethren lips
Carry your name from north to south

Who is the captain of your ship?

When sickness comes your way
Or the bitter cup of death you sip
When the night eats up the day

(Reply person #1)

The captain of my ship is Jesus
I’m safe in the raging storm
When the cruel waves beat on my ship of faith
Jesus keeps me safe and calm

Person #2
Jesus is the captain of my ship
When the waves of trial around me roll
And Satan seeks to destroy my soul
Captain Jesus leads me to the goal

Person # 3
At times I feel all hope is lost
As the waves of fear threatened my ship
But my captain Jesus is at the wheel
And I know He’s there to comfort and heal

Song (Like a ship sailing on)

Captain Jesus is there to comfort and heal. He desires to hear our prayer; he wants to
communicate with us. Why not give Him a chance to be the captain of your life. As we
pray, let us reach out and touch Him as He passes by.

Song (Reach out and touch Him)

How firm is your anchor of faith? Will it hold amidst the storms of life? Be assured that
with Captain Jesus at the helm we have nothing to fear. Many unfortunately, suffered the
shipwreck of life because they try to steer the ship without the Captain. Let’s meet a few
of them as they relate their story.

INTERVIEWER: Our first guest is FAITH-LESS-NESS. Faithlessness, tell me about

Yourself and why you ended up on the shipwreck of life?
FAITH-LESS-NESS: As my name suggest, I have no faith. I could not trust the Captain
To steer my ship. I know I should trust him but I could not bring
myself to lose my fear of failure. You see I represent those who
want to make a move for Christ but are fearful.
Fearful of failure, fearful of what friends will say, fearful of ridicule,
fearful of loosing those things they love dearly, fearful of family,
and some are even fearful of fellow church brethren. And so I
decided to go on my own but no sooner launching out, I came head
on with the fierce wind of life. My boat was shattered and I became
a desperate man seeking to be rescued.

INTERVIEWER: What lessons have you learnt from this experience?

FAITH-LESS-NESS: I learnt that I should never trust myself on this sea of life. Captain
Jesus knows the way and only in Him can I be safe. I must
therefore be willing to trust Him unreservedly.

INTERVIEWER: If you could change anything about your life, what would it be?

FAITH-LESS-NESS: It would be my name. I would change my name from faithlessness

to faithfulness. With this new name I will not hesitate to trust my
captain, Captain Jesus!

INTERVIEWER: The bible says in Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to
please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is,and that
he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
My other guest is “Presumption”. Tell me Mr. “Presumption” why
were you involved in the ship wreck of life?

PRESUMPTION: I ended up on the ship wreck of life because failed to allow the
Captain to steer my ship. I know for certain that going it alone would end in disaster, but
some how believe that Christ would come to my rescue when I fail.

INTERVIEWER: Are you saying that you know exactly what to do but deliberately
refused to comply?

PRESUMPTION: Exactly, I rely upon the grace of God hoping it would cover me even
in my sins. I was sadly mistaken, God’s grace cannot cover the sins of
the person who continue to sin deliberately. To avoid the ship wreck of
life one must be willing to fully submit to the captain. Only He can
steer our ship to safety.

(Background reading) For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge
of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins. Hebrews 10:
26

INTERVIEWER: Carelessness is my next guest. Miss Carelessness, you also ended up

on the ship wreck of life, where did you go wrong?

CARELESSNESS: I too, chose to take this trip on my own without the Captain. I
represent those who are sleeping on guard. They are not making the
necessary preparation for the crisis ahead. They become lukewarm
and soon fall asleep. My ship was shattered on the rocks of life. I went
to sleep, drowsy from the cares of life. My ship headed for the rocks
and was destroyed. If only Captain Jesus was on board I would be
safe from all harms.

INTERVIEWER: If you were given a chance to change your life, what would it be?

CARLESSNESS: It would be my name, I would change my name from

“CARELESSNESS” to “CAREFULNESS”. I would never sail again
without the Captain who never slumber or sleep.

(Background reading) Watch ye therefore and pray always, that ye may not be accounted
worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass and to stand
before the Son of man. (Luke 21:36)

CHRISTIANS OF FAITH

Christians of faith your captain is here

And will always be so very near
He sees your tears He hears your cry
And will make things better by and y

Who sees the pain as your young ones cry?

For the father who cares not whether you die
In your lonely hour of grief and loss
Captain Jesus reminds you of the cross

When affection fails and friends are few

When the rose have no freshening dew
When shattered by life’s woes and fear
Captain Jesus proves He’s so very near

See him steer through the billows of life

In a world so cold with hate and strife
The boat may rock but He’ll never let you go
For His love reaches you from head to toe

Hold on dear Christians the journey may be long

As the waves of fear threatens my ship
But my captain, Jesus is at the wheel
And I know He’s their to comfort and heal
