OJ Simpson Trial

On June 12, 1994 OJ Simpson was accused of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown

Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. OJ Simpson won the case after he paid a large amount of

money to his lawyers to get on the case.OJ Simpson was acquitted of the crime and many people

disagree with the verdict of the jury. Many people believe that he was supposed to be prosecuted

for what happened to Brown and Goldman. OJ Simpson was able to win the case because he had

money to use to get himself the best lawyers that money could buy. In the investigation there

were many pieces of evidence that supported OJ Simpson but on the other hand there were many

that did not.

Simpson has had a very interesting past before he became famous. At age thirteen, he

joined a gang, (Boan) , and that may have caused Simpson to murder his ex-wife and her friend.

Joining a gang may have also influenced and encouraged him to use violence towards Brown,

because he was never punished for using violence when he was involved with the gang . After

that he was arrested for fighting. (Boan) . Simpson had been involved with the police from a

very early age. OJ Simpson had been involved with the police multiple times for all kinds of

reasons, which proves that he may have gotten influenced and murdered his ex-wife and her

friend. Simpsons past might have caused him to release anger that he had towards Brown and

her friend Goldman.

Once OJ Simpson became suspected of the murdering Brown and Goldman a warrant

was issued for his arrest five days later, he attempted to flee. the police went to Simpsons home

to arrest him and they could not find Simpson at his home, they shortly found out that he was

trying to run away from them. The police found that Simpson was spotted in his white Bronco,

driven by his friend Al Cowlings, who led police on a slow sixty-mile chase through Los

Angeles; (Boan) . Simpsons car chase caused the police to suspect him even more than they

already did. Once the police caught Simpson, they investigated his home and DNA evidence

was collected from blood found outside Simpsons home (Boan) . The evidence that was

collected from the crime scene made Simpson appear guilty.

When Simpson became aware that he might get sentenced to jail time he became

determined to win and he assembled a team of eleven prominent lawyers, (Boan) . OJ

Simpson wanted to win the case in any way he possibly could. There was an examination of

how he used the wealth (OJ Simpson: Rich and Acquitted [...].) , Simpson was able to get the

best lawyers on the case, because he had so much money and he was willing to spend as much as

he needed to win this case. Simpson was only able to win because of his money from his football

career.

After the case had been close and the trial had ended , police started investigating a

knife that authorities say may have been found at O.J. Simpson's residence more than 16 years

ago, (Alter) . Police officers questioned why the knife had not been investigated before the trial

had ended,The officer claimed the knife was submitted by a person who said he was working

construction on O.J. Simpson's property. (Alter). If the knife had been found and investigated

before the trial had ended, Simpson might have been found guilty.

The trial ended after it lasted more than nine months (Boan), Although OJ Simpson

was charged with two counts of murder. (Boan) he was ruled not guilty of murder in his

criminal trial, (Boan) . Simpson won his case, when most people assumed that he would be

found guilty. While Simpson did get out of a guilty murder verdict, Simpson was eventually

incarcerated in 2008 after being found guilty of robbery. (OJ Simpson: Rich and Acquitted

[...].) . After the trial had ended, and Simpson could not be tried for the crime again under the

law of double jeopardy. Simpson published a book titled If I Did It: Confessions Of The Killer.

The book was over the hypothetical description of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and

Ron Goldman. Many people thought that his book should have been used as a confession, but

since the book stated that everything is hypothetical, the court was not able to use it as well as

they were not able to try Simpson more than twice for the same crime (Double Jeopardy).

The OJ Simpson trial was one of the most popular trials that has ever been televised in

the United States. The crimes that were committed were incredibly heinous, yet no one was

charged nor punished for them. The people thought that someone should have been punished for

them, and many were angry about it. OJ Simpson did end up getting sentenced to jail time, but it

was to pay for a different crime that he had committed, which eased some of the anger many

people had. OJ Simpson still had to pay $8.5 million in compensatory damages to the Goldman

family and $25 million in punitive damages to the Goldman and Brown families (Boan) .

Alghussein 4
although Simpson still had to pay, many people still believe that OJ Simpson should have been

found guilty by the jury.
