HOW TO USE:
NOMENCLATURE:
Scope: extent of activities, facilities and decisions that the organization addresses through an EnMS, which can include several boundaries.
Boundaries: physical or site limits and/or organizational limits as defined by the organization.
Energy: electricity, fuels, steam, heat, compressed air, and other like media.
Energy Policy: statement by the organization of its overall intentions and direction of an organization related to its energy performance, as formally expressed by top management.
Energy Review: determination of the organization's energy performance based on data and other information, leading to identification of opportunities for improvement.
Energy Baseline: quantitative reference(s) providing a basis for comparison of energy performance.
Energy Consumption: quantity of energy applied.
Energy Objective: specified outcome or achievement set to meet the organization's energy policy related to improved energy performance.
Energy Performance: measurable results related to energy efficiency, energy use and energy consumption.
Energy Performance Indicator (EnPI): quantitative value or measure of energy performance, as defined by the organization.
Energy Use: manner or kind of application of energy (e.g. Ventilation; lighting; heating; cooling; transportation; processes; production lines.)

Comprehensive system sets targets and
monitors appropriate EnPIs for all energy
sources and significant energy uses;
monitors effectiveness of action plans,
objectives and targets; evaluates actual
versus expected energy consumption; and
investigates & responds to significant
deviations in energy performance. Energy
Performance reviewed by top management
periodically.
LEVEL 5
LEVEL 5
Continuous improvement of EE
performance. Implementation of (nearly) all
energy efficiency measures as defined in an
ambitious action plan that is inline with the
energy policy. Energy performance is
essential part of procurement, design,
operation & maintenance of significant
energy uses.
