Doug Bandow is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute and has also written numerous

books appearing on television networks, including CNN and ABC. In this article Bandow

discusses and supports the pharmaceutical companies, explaining why so much money is

spent on research and testing when developing a new drug. Bandow wants the reader to

understand that all the benefits which come from prescription drugs exceed the cost.

Bandow defended the pharmaceutical companies by writing several counter arguments

against experts and politicians claims. This article was an easy read, supported with

numerous facts. Bandows article is good for any reader looking for an article based on

the drug companies perspectives, it will come of great use in my paper as it gives the

opposing viewpoint.

Omar El Akkad is a journalist at the Globe & Mail in Toronto, Canada and discusses how

familiar America is with companies increasing their drug prices. In Akkads article he

explains the process companies go through to get there hands on old drugs and raise their

prices to create a bigger profit. Akkads article is based strictly on research and was

written to help enlighten/inform people. This article would be of great interest to any

reader who is looking to see how companies raise drug prices as well as how they do it

discretely. This will be great for my paper as it explains how name-brand companies

make their money.

Carly Weeks is a journalist at the Globe and Mail in Toronto, Canada and talks about the

growing issue with affordable access to life-saving medication. The article depicts several

examples of companies raising the price of their prescription drugs dramatically. Weeks

article only informs the reader on the issue and does not focus on her personal opinion.

She provides arguments from both experts and companies themselves and lets the reader

form their own conclusion. Week's writing clearly explains the issue and shows both

opposing sides which could be of great interest to any reader who is looking for more

knowledge on the growing issue of drug prices.

Carolyn Johnson is a journalist at the Washington Post and discusses the publics

response to pharmaceutical companies newest prices. The article focuses on two

companies specifically and the drugs they raised in price. Carolyn also talks about

politicians involvement in investigating and possibly resolving the issue. Carolyns

writing is completely factual and does not discuss her personal opinion. This article

would be great for any reader looking for information on the publics response as well as

our country's leaders.

Alliance for Retired Americans Educational Fund is an organization which has been

conducting research in order to secure the health safety of seniors. They believe that

pharmaceutical companies have exaggerated the price of developing new medicine in


order to raise the market price. The article is based solely on refuting pharmaceutical

companies claims, which are supported with evidence. The article does focus on the

organizations personal opinion, although they state clearly the opposing sides claims, the

overall tone of the article is opinionated. The organizations article addresses the issue

and goes very in depth with how it has grown to such an extent. This article would

benefit any reader looking for more detailed information on the increase in drug prices.
