11th Grade U.S. History and Government 2016-2017

Dear class of 2018 Families,

Welcome to United States History and Government. The purpose of this years history course is to study the various histories of
America and how Americans interaction with their government influences life today. The 11 th grade is a crucial year for all students.
There will be multiple NY State Regents Exams, SATs, and college applications. In June, students will take the NYS Regents Exam in
United States History and Government. We will be implementing the Common Core standards by placing specific emphasis on using
rigorous academic language, developing argumentation, and using nonfiction textual evidence to help guide their success. Students will
also be using Edmodo as a tool for online academic discussion. Late homework and projects will not be accepted. If you are absent you
have one day to complete the assignment you have missed. On the back of this sheet is a list of the topics we will be exploring. I am
excited to work with your families this year to prepare our students for success. I look forward to guiding each student through the story
of how our country was formed.
January Regents: Thursday, January 26 - 9:15 a.m. June Regents: June 13 - 9:15 am.
Sincerely,
Ms. M McDonald
Social Studies Teacher
