The present Diploma Paper has investigated the topic Types of Conditional

Sentences in English, ways of translating them into Romanian in Jane Eyre by

Charlotte Bronte and Jane Eyre translated in Romanian by Mirella Acsente.
The main aim was achieved by investigating the peculiarities of each type
of conditional sentences in English and Romanian which were expressed in Jane
Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and the ways of translating them into Romanian from
Jane Eyre Mirella Acsentes translation . All the objectives were achieved and it
came to the following conclusions:

1. The theoretical background of conditional sentences was studied and there

were many ways of classifying them. From all the classifications there were
found the next classification of conditional sentences: real conditional
sentences, half-real and unreal conditional sentences and mixed conditional
sentences. There were studied forms of each type of conditionals and the
peculiarities of each of them.
2. All the examples of conditional sentences in English were selected from
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. This book consists of 447 pages and there
were found 251 examples and between them there were found 110 examples
of real conditional sentences, 139 examples of half-real and unreal
conditional sentences and 4 examples of mixed conditional sentences. The
most frequent type of conditional sentence are the half-real and unreal
sentences, the next after this sentence are the real conditional sentences and
the smallest frequency have the mixed conditionals;
3. All examples in Romanian were selected and the ways of translating them
were analyzed. The real conditional sentences were translated in Romanian
in the next way: the main clauses were translated with Present Indicative,
Future II Indicative, Present Indicative, Imperative, Future Indicative,
Present Conditional and the if clauses with the help of Present Indicative,
 Future II Indicative, Future Indicative, Present Conditional; The half-real
and unreal conditional sentences were translated in the main clauses with the
help of Present Conditional, Present Indicative, Past Indicative, Past
Conditional and the if clauses were translated with the help of Present
Conditional, Past Indicative, Past Indicative. Mixed conditional sentences
were translated in the main clauses with the help of Present Conditional and
the if clauses were translated with the help of Future II Indicative or Past
Indicative.
4. During the studies there were some difficulties: while collecting conditional
clauses they were confused with other sentences with if. The if clauses were
confused with sentences which express possibility, feelings, forms which
were used to ask politely to do something, example which were used to
introduce a contrast, examples where if was used to make the degree of
comparison and examples used to express politeness. Another problem is
that English conditional sentences in if clauses cant have in their structure a
future verb form but in Romanian these sentences are translated with the
future tenses.
The practical value of this research lies in elaboration of a set of suggestions that
can be used by people who learn English. This research is quite useful and can
have practical value for the interrelations among some subjects, as, for example
Grammar, Morphology etc.
