OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUPPORT
Many national and local opportunities are available to support UTeach during our yearlong celebration of
STEM teachers.
Dedicated 20th Anniversary Website and Media
A website, videos, and other collateral materials will celebrate
the impact UTeach has made on STEM teacher preparation.
All traffic from UTeach partner programs and from the public
will be directed to a website featuring interviews with UTeach
alumni and students about what it means to teach STEM
and with principals who hire and love our graduates. Receive
recognition as a STEM education supporter on the website and
in videos and other materials used nationwide.
UTeach Week
During National Teacher Appreciation Week (May 15, 2017),
UTeach programs across the country will host local celebrities
and civic leaders teaching STEM lessons in their schools.
Provide grant awards to UTeach programs and local schools to
support this event.

UTeach is raising awareness of the importance of
high-quality secondary STEM education with a variety
of celebratory activities during 20162017, including
feature articles and videos highlighting STEM
teaching excellence, regional activities and events to
honor and recognize UTeach alumni, and a national
media campaign highlighting the importance of great
STEM teachers. Our celebrations will culminate in
May with UTeach Week and the UTeach Conference.
2017 UTeach Conference
Our anniversary celebrations will culminate in May 2017
with three days of learning and networking with teachers,
universities, and funders from across the nation. Sponsor
speakers and conference events.
National DonorsChoose and Think It Up Campaigns
Recognize and support the amazing work of the national
network of UTeach STEM teachers by providing matching
funds for projects in their classrooms. These projects will
launch in Spring 2017.

ABOUT UTEACH
UTeach is a unique university-based secondary STEM
(science, technology, engineering, math) teacher preparation
program that answers the critical need for qualified STEM
teachers in Texas and across the country. With its nationally
scalable program for universities, UTeach is producing a
rapidly growing number of teachers who are educating
tomorrows scientists and engineers to play a vital role in
Americas economic growth.

National Recognition
UTeach was highlighted as a promising program by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and by
the Presidents Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
President Barack Obama cited UTeach as a way that universities can educate the next generation of scientists and
mathematicians.
The White House recognized UTeach for its exemplary preparation of mathematics and science teachers in connection with
the Howard Hughes Medical Institute grant to replicate UTeach at 10 additional universities.

Critical UTeach Components

A compact degree plan that allows students to graduate in four years with a degree in their major and
secondary STEM teacher certification.
Flexible entry points for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and nontraditional students.
Partial tuition reimbursement to try out teaching.
Early field experience that places students in classrooms during their first semesters.
Paid internships at schools and nonprofit organizations to reinforce the students experience and
commitment to teaching.
Master teachers with backgrounds in public school teaching and leadership to guide students through a
sequence of field experiences.
Inquiry-based instruction to enhance student mastery of STEM course content.
In-service mentor teachers who work closely with students in their field placement.
Mentoring and support for the first two years of teaching.
