Assessment Have students be able to properly identify key vocabulary, important events, and
STAGE 2 main idea of a nonfiction piece. For my diagnostic assessment, I will do oral
questions with the students about what they know about nonfiction texts. For the
formative assessment, I will read a nonfiction magazine out loud to them and ask
a few questions throughout the read aloud. For the summative assessment, I will
have the students complete a worksheet that requires students to fill out
information about the nonfiction magazine including the title, main idea, important
words, facts they learned, and questions they still have.

Closure 5-For the closure activity, I will hand out a Nonfiction text graphic organizer
Activity worksheet. The students will have to fill each section with information about the
STAGE 2/3 magazine. The sections include title, Main Idea, Facts they learned, Important
words, and questions they still have.

Follow-Up/ Students will be given a homework assignment on a nonfiction piece of their


Homework choice.

REFLECTION This lesson went pretty well. The students absorbed the material very easily.
(TO BE COMPLETED They also enjoyed the reading topic. However, I kind of ran out of time so that

was a negative. Also, a few students were lazy and failed to complete the
worksheet. If I were going to do this lesson over again, I would probably add an
education video or hands on activity to make it more interesting.
