Proposal for TV ident

Client needs
The client requires a 30 second TV ident which will display the TV channel logo which will be
the Grid and to aim the TV ident at a target which will be 18 30 year olds. The channel
will feature shows such as Geordie shore and Ex on the beach. The shows will fit the target
audience criteria so I will make sure I do this by including these shows in the ident. The
dimension of the video which will be edited in Macromedia Director is 832 x 634. Having
this as the dimension will be suitable to view by everyone who watches on TV.
The ident must fit for purpose such as the other TV channel idents that I have researched
therefore I will need to make sure it is up to standard with the other channels idents. The
client also gave me a choice to edit the ident together using Adobe Flash or Director but I
have decided I will use Director due to having much more experience with the program. I
will be also using other programs to help build the TV ident such as Adobe Photoshop. I will
also need to create a logo for the client and I will do this by creating it in Photoshop using
various of tools.

Storyboards & Dope sheets

For the storyboards I have sketched my logo before I created it in Photoshop.
For my first idea, the logo will be composed with bright colours on the font (which you can
see on the right-hand side as an example) as they slowly form the word THE GRID off-
screen towards the middle. The background will be very simple due to I dont want to
disengage the viewer. The storyboards and dope sheets are there to give me an idea when
designing it in macromedia. This will help me because I can have a rough sketch of what I
want the TV ident to look like. I have kept the same colour scheme for my logo however I
have slightly adjusted the colour in some parts to make the TV ident more appealing. If the
same colour scheme is constant throughout it may be boring for the viewer.
My idea involves having a large TV screen, The screen will show the different TV show and
on the main screen I will have 3 different screens which will zoom in to one then show a
preview. The screen of the television will display the channel logo on the top right and it will
display an image of one of the three required shows, with an announcer saying it is coming
up next, there will be three of these idents.
Image of dope sheets and logo but problems with scanning.

Script
For my TV ident I will need a script in order for me to plan and create the ident. I will include
an audio voiceover while transitioning to different TV shows so for example I could have a
voiceover saying next up on The Grid. This is an example of what voiceovers I will have.
The first part of my TV ident will be showing the logo which will feature The Grid logo.
This will feature the logo coming from small to big onto the screen to create an effect. After
this I will have a home screen which will consist of 4 different TV sections which 1 will zoom
in and play the TV show. After showing the show for at least 10 seconds it will change back
to the home screen and go to another section for a different TV show.
The use of the different TV screen I think it will look professional and Ive not seen an ident
do that kind of style so it will be original and unique. At the end of the TV ident I will show
the logo to make the viewer remember the channel name and logo. The idea of a script is to
know an outline of what the TV ident should go through and what types of animations will
happen.

Mind map
I have created a mind map to aid which Im gathering ideas for this project. They contain the
basics I must include such as the lists of available software i.e. Photoshop, Premier, Sound
booth and Flash. As well as other ideas such as animation style, theme of ident and music.
The main headings on my mood board are Formats, Theme and styles, Screen dimensions
size of 1024 x 768, target age group of roughly between 18 30. I have also covered what
types of music that I will include, this will help me decide what music I will include on the TV
ident. The types of music I have been looking at is techno music because I think that the
target audience will be suitable for this and I know that techno music is very popular in my
target audience section
Demographics
For the TV ident I know that the target audience is very important for the ident and the new
channel so I will be considering the demographics and I will need to determine what my
target is and how I should go about creating the TV ident for them. My target audience is 18
30 year olds so I know that the target audience is quite broad so it leaves me with a lot of
stuff I can add to the ident. The TV channel The Grid will be a channel which shows
different kinds of reality TV shows and music channels which is similar to the channel MTV.
I have decided to have these shows because they are very popular with the younger
audience and even with the middle age rang so I thought it will be suitable for this.
For my TV ident I have decided to go with electro genre music with my production, I think it
fits the TV ident and the TV shows that will feature. Also, because it is not commonly used
in typical advertisements, they would attract greater attention when played amongst other
advertisements on the ident.
If I did not consider this it would be difficult to target the audience with the ident which can
cause problems, such as lack of viewers for that channel. Also not many people will
memorise what the channels name is called, etc.

Logo design
For my logo I wanted it to be very simple however keep a professional look for it. I have
researched a lot of different TV ident logos and I saw that some of them are overpowering
so I wanted my logo to be simple but effective. The colour scheme of the logo will be a
mixture of different colour which will be a gradient trailing off which will easily catch the
audiences attention of the logo. No icons will be incorporated due to the effects I will be
applying towards the logo since it is already interactive.

Looking at my final logo I think that it looks very professional and will be appealing to the
target audience. I will make sure that the background can be transparent so I can import it
onto the TV ident. After researching other TV Idents logos, I noticed that most of them are
full of different colours because of the target audience being younger. I have decided to do
bright colours for my logo to attract the audience. I think my logo is unique and original to
ones I have seen online which will appeal to the audience.
As you can see the logo is very simple however I think it will work with my TV ident and I
think the colour scheme and design fits for the target audience
Colour scheme

The colour scheme for my TV ident will be a mixture of different colours but mainly the
colour scheme will feature the colours of my logo. However, the colour scheme may be
adjusted in macromedia if needed because some of the colours may not look good when
applying them. I think that the current colour scheme will fit for purpose for the target
audience because with the target audience being quite young the colours will appeal to
them rather than having not bright colours. The blend of the blue, yellow and orange I think
works really well because they do not clash.
Also I think that the colours will be suitable for both genders so I think there will be no
problem with that. On my logo I have featured a gradient effect to make the logo more
appealing so I have decided to use this gradient as well in my TV Ident to make it stand out
more than any usual colour scheme.

Music
When it comes to developing my TV ident, I need to consider the audio that goes along
with the animation within the time span of 30 seconds. I need to make sure that the music
that appears in the TV ident isnt bad quality and meets the target audience music taste
however I know this is going to be difficult to please everyone so I will go from the different
chart music which I think the target audience will enjoy. If the ident lacks audio, it wouldnt
be appealing at all even causing the audience to lose interest quite fast. I can include 2
types of different sound tracks. One being the different effects I can use for example when
a button is clicked I can make a sound for it to make it interactive If I combine both of these
two audios in my ident, it will make it a lot more appealing to the target audience and thats
what I want to happen.
I will need to consider where I will be downloading the music because I will need to make
sure I do not download copyrighted music because I know that is illegal however there is a
law that you can use any audio under 15 seconds without it being copyrighted and thats
what Im thinking of doing. If I used copyrighted music I should state this in my asset
collection and also credit the owner of the music.
Sound
For my TV ident I do not intend on having many sound effects in my video. I may use the
sound effects featured in the macromedia program however I do not want to annoy the
viewer so If I do include some sound effects I will need to ensure that there is a mute button
for the user.
There is a chance that I may consider including some small sound effects during the play
out of my production. In areas where there is swift movement such as the dope sheets
layers 2 which shows the main screen when the button is clicked I may add an effect on
them.
Whilst I am dealing with any sound effect I may require the use of ear/headphones else I will
be unable to work with the sound components of the product, the same goes for when I am
adding the music to the ident.

Format
Projector file is a file format used by Macromedia and to store and deliver synchronized
audio and video streams over the Internet. The format I will be completing the assignment
in is Macromedia. I have practiced with the software and I am capable of producing it.
The tools in Macromedia are not the best however I will do my best to make it look to a
high standard. Because of this I will be creating other assets out my scenes and other
elements of the animation using Adobe Photoshop, I am very confident with this software
and by drawing elements in the programme and importing them to Flash for assembly will
result in a higher quality, professional animation, I can also ensure that the images are the
same size as each other, and I can make sure they are smooth and crisply edged.
Photoshop
The second programme I require for this assignment is Adobe Photoshop Cs5, I plan to use
this when creating my logo and other graphic assets.
Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editing software which deals with pixels, the
programmes were published for Windows OS X by Adobe Systems. And was created in
1988 by Thomas and John Knoll.

A .PSD file is a layered image file used in Adobe Photoshop. PSD, which stands for
Photoshop Document, is the default format that Photoshop uses for saving data. PSD is a
proprietary file that allows the user to work with the images individual layers even after the
file has been saved.

When an image is complete, Photoshop allows the user to flatten the layers and convert the
flat image into a .JPG, .GIF, .TIFF or other non-proprietary file format so it can be
shared. Once a PSD image has been flatten by conversion, however, it cannot be converted
back to PSD and the user can no longer work with the image's layers. It is important,
therefore, so always save the .PSD file and not overwrite it during conversion.

Copyright laws

Copyright law originated in the United Kingdom from a concept of common law; the
Statute of Anne 1709. It became statutory with the passing of the Copyright Act 1911. The
current act is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. The laws were implemented to
make sure people who created some kind of work and prevent people from stealing your
work to benefit themselves.
Before this law was an act people could copy someones work and claim that the work was
from them. This was a big problem to companys so they decided to have this act mainly on
the web due to it is open to the world and it is easier to steal work from the web such as
images, videos and music. These assets are included in my product so this is why I need to
consider where I get my assets from. The copyright law protects the IT industry because
mainly copyrighting takes place on the web.
Assets
Videos are popular target for copyright. Videos online such as YouTube are sometimes
copyrighted so no one can use their video for beneficial purposes. The person who creates a
video (the creator), such as somebody who records the video, will generally be the owner
of the original copyright. However, if it was created as part of the creators job, the
employer will generally own the copyright. Videos on the internet may have the
copyrighted symbol in front of the image to prevent anyone using it however some videos
dont. The copyright symbol does not have to be present for copyright to exist, so just
because there is no name or copyright symbol associated with a photo or video does not
mean the copyright has expired. If you want to gain permission to use the video you will
need to contact the owner who is the creator of the video and sort an agreement. Most of
the time the agreement is through paying for the video however you may not have to pay.
They might ask you to instead of gaining full copyright of the video you could just get
permission to use it. This is the same with other assets such as images
Software can be a copyright problem too. If you buy a software package legally which
allows you to use the software for yourself this means that you do not own that software.
The software company allows you to use it but only for yourself so you cannot claim the
product to be yours or illegally transfer the software to someone else. Also some websites
offer instructions on softwares which are required to be bought. These websites provide
crack codes to allow users all over the world to use the software for free and this is illegal.
Each software usually contains a license to that individual computer. If the software is on a
disk therefore it can only be used for one computer machine. However, people burn the
software onto another disk and give the software to another person. This is illegal and
would need to buy another license in order to use it again. This law is the same with schools
where each computer must have a different license.
In order I do not break any laws or offend anyone I need to make sure I do not get all my
images from a copyrighted source and I do not copy anyones work without permission. If I
want an image or video I need to contact the owner and ask them for permission before
using it in my product.

Hardware requirements
The hardware components that I will be needing for this assignment is a computer and
desktop, the computer will need to have a lot of storage and good enough components to
store all the software and make it run smoothly when editing the TV ident together.
Storage is very important because I will need to save all the assets and software programs.
Storage refers to the memory of a device and it is the key element of making a project
work.
Digital storage will support any file content such as images, videos and documents can be
stored. An example of storage is a computers hard drive. A hard drive is where information
such as software, documents, mp3s, videos and documents. If I need more storage, I can
buy storage devices such as USBs or an external hard drive. I will also need to make sure
that the storage is backed up because if anything goes wrong with the project and it
corrupts the files I can get the files back by backing them up.
I will also need a set of headphones to listen to the audio for the TV ident and also a
microphone so I can record some voiceovers for the ident. I will only need a standard
microphone to record the voiceover because I will edit it in an audio editing software to
enhance the quality.

Software requirements
For the TV ident project we have been given the option of using two animation softwares
to create the work. The choices were between Adobe Flash and Macromedia Director. I
have chosen to use Macromedia simple because I have used this in the past and I have good
knowledge of the different tools. I have practiced with the programme and although I have
used Director more often in the past assignments it is in my opinion that for the purpose of
this assignment I will be better of using this.
The following programmes I am about to list are what programs I will be using to help
create the TV ident.

Adobe Macromedia
Macromedia will be the source of the programs which I will use because this is the software
that I will be using to edit the TV ident together. The program Macromedia was an
American graphics, multimedia and web development software company (19922005)
headquartered in San Francisco, California that produced such products as Flash and
Dreamweaver. Its rival, Adobe Systems, acquired Macromedia on December 3, 2005.
Adobe Photoshop Cs5:
The second programme I require for this assignment is Adobe Photoshop Cs5, I plan to use
this when creating my logo and other graphic assets.
Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editing software which deals with pixels, the
programmes were published for Windows OS X by Adobe Systems. And was created in
1988 by Thomas and John Knoll. There have been many updates to Photoshop since
version 1 over the past 25 but the college has the CS5 version. I will use all the tools in
Photoshop which will help me create different assets. For example, when creating the logo
for the TV ident I will use Photoshop because I find it the best to edit and manipulate
images and I am very familiar with the software.
