the students and teachers. The purpose of this research is to explain the positive effects of using

online educational tools by Grade 10:02 students. The importance of this report is to encourage

students to use online educational tools. The pieces of information found in this research are based

on eight sources. First, an article by Susan Oxnevad entitled 5 Ways to Use Google Docs in the

Classroom describes the usage of Google Drive which is an example of educational tools. Second,

Scott Steinburg shows that many people is starting to participate in distance education in his article

entitled Distance Learning: Best Apps, Tools and Online Services. Third, an article entitled The

Kellogg entitled 50 Free Tech Tools For Your Classroom writes about basic informations of some

educational tools. Furthermore, this research will also be based on interviews from eight Grade

10:02 student.

What are Educational Tools and Their Examples?

According to Steinburg (2013), distance learning and online educational tools are getting

known and used by many educators in elementary schools, high schools or even a university level.

What is an online educational tool? It is a tool linked to the internet that helps students in studying

and developing skills. According to the survey, one fifth undergraduates have joined in at least one

distant learning (Steinburg, 2013). The advancement of technology nowadays provides more

availability to learn from anywhere and at anytime. The internet has a big influence on our lives and

thats why we should bring the most benefits out of it. There are many different available online

educational tools today, each one has its own specific features and purposes. Examples of some

useful online educational tools are Kahoot, Quizlet, Edmodo, Desmos, Google Drive, etc.

First, Kahoot is a website that provides a quiz that a student can compete with friends whether who

is going to answer the question correctly and faster than other people. Quizlet is a great website for

revising lesson because it comes with many learning options, including revision tests, spelling

exercise, solving the flashcards, and various types of enjoyable educational game (Tools For K-5

Teacher, 2016). Next, Edmodo is a website for teachers to assign works to their students. They can

determine the deadline of an assignment in the post and the Edmodo will mark the work as late if it

is turned in after the set time. Moreover, Edmodo can be used to create a quiz and count the scores

earned by each students. Next, Desmos is a fantastic tool for learning Mathematics. It helps in

plotting any kinds of graphs just by filling the equations, very practical to use. Lastly, a Google

Drive is one of the most useful educational tool because it allows students to work and edit a

document by many users at the same time. It can be used to share various types of file such as
KOOSONGDHAM 3
Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and PDF among teachers and students (Muthler, 2015) which create an

easier way for teacher to check the students works and edit them together with the student.

Positive Effect of Using Online Educational Tools

According to the information mentioned above, there are many usages of online educational

tools. Here are some benefits or positive effects of online educational tools on learners. The

researcher will talk mainly just on some examples of educational tools. Kahoot makes students

enjoy when answering the quiz and encourage students to try their best to get the highest score

among their friends. However, it also comes with a slightly negative effect as students have to

compete with time and they might not think properly before choosing the answer. Next, Quizlet

helps educators to review important terms and definitions in the lesson. It gives the correct answer

right away if the answer that is filled was wrong. It also checks the spelling of the answers, for

student to be able to write the terms correctly. Moreover, theres a game provided to review the

lesson in a more divertive way, which helps improve the learning effectiveness (Dublin, 2015).

Next, Edmodo is a website that makes it more convenient to assign and turn in work. It helps

teacher to arrange the arrange and deal with homework given to student properly and check

automatically if the student hand in the assignment in on time or not. On the other hand, it also

helps the student to easily check the due date of the assignment and has an effect on improving the

students responsibility (Dublin, 2015). Next, Desmos is a perfect tool to use when learning about

graph. The learners wouldnt have to spend their time on plotting graph in some exercises given.

Anyway, it must be used appropriately because some kind of question require students to practice

plotting graph by themselves and the using of this educational tool will discourage them to learn

this skill. Finally, the Google Drive is a tool that provides a great convenience in communicating. It

helps a lot in doing group work, members of the group can do a Word Document, Slides

presentation, or even excel sheets together at the same time from the different devices. It solves the

problem of people who have no time meeting with other members in the group because the work

can be edited from anywhere and at anytime. The note and comment can also be added when there

is mistake in the work. Moreover, it provides a chat conversation among people who share the

document. It gives tons of benefits for educators and is highly recommended by many websites on

the internet (Thomson, 2014).

Furthermore, online educational tools can come up with many more benefits, for example, it helps

saving travel and communication cost. All the learning process can be achieved totally online, so

the travel cost and phone call cost can be eliminated. It also makes the information more accessible

as many people are connected at once. The sharing of ideas, opinion and informations are wider and

faster, and this influences a lot on the learning progress of educators (Majumdar, 2015).

Opinions on Students Improvement by Using Online Educational Tools

The researcher interviewed eight students from Grade 10:02 class about how they think

online educational tools have affected their learning progress. The results turned out that online

educational tools influence a lot on their learning. All students stated that they could produce the

better quality of work because the communication plays an important role in doing work and they

could do it with no obstacles with the help of online educational tools. Most of them said that

Google Drive is the most useful and beneficial because it helps them in a lot in collaborating with

friends. They told that Google Drive is used in almost every subjects and it works well with every

single subjects. They said that it prevents the losing of work as its permanently kept in the website

and all the edited parts are auto-saved. Moreover, couple of them stated that it is extremely easy to

solve the problem in any documents as everyone can access the document at the same time.

Edmodo is another online educational tool that is highly rated by the students. They said that this

website helps remind them to send their work on time and it also helps in managing and receiving

informations about the assignments. One another favorite online educational tool of the students is

the Kahoot. They said that this website motivates them to review the lesson before tests. Kahoot

provides them a more entertaining way of revising the lesson and they said that this really helps

improve their grades. In addition, they said there are more quizzes about various topics on Kahoot

and they can get more knowledge by doing those quizzes and at the same time enjoy learning new

things with friends.

Grade 10:02 students. The research concluded that online educational tools have many benefits and

positive effects on the learning progress of students. They make studying more interesting and

convenient, which help student to enjoy learning. Technology has developed and there are many
