Course Description: Physical education is designed to help students become more physically fit, healthier
individuals. It is also designed to teach students sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership. Students will
be using the Sport Education Model to learn different roles involved in sports and games at a school and
professional level. Aside from the various sports we will play, we will also learn about heart rate, and
how to use heart rate to monitor exercise. FitnessGram will be used to teach students how to stay healthy
as they mature into young women. Lifetime fitness units like walking, cardiovascular strength and
strength training will be a focus, as students will learn that staying fit and healthy is not just for athletes.
The FitnessGram system will measure student growth and achievement in the categories of cardiovascular
strength, muscular strength, flexibility, and endurance; all key components of physical fitness and areas
we will stress within each unit.
Resources/ Materials: Students must be wearing white sneakers and their Physical Education uniform
(TYWLS navy blue pants or shorts and a TYWLS t-shirt) for class each day.

commentators. Students will also take on leadership roles such as warm up leader and set-up and
clean-up leaders.
Extra Help: Students seeking extra help in physical education should schedule a time to come down to
the gym to work on the areas in which they are struggling. All students seeking extra help are expected to
