A Midsummer Nights Dream by William Shakespeare.

A Midsummer Night's Dream contains some wonderfully lyrical expressions of lighter

Shakespearean themes, most notably those of love, dreams, and the stuff of both, the creative
imagination itself. Indeed, close scrutiny of the text by twentieth-century critics has led to a
significant upward revision in the play's status, one that overlooks the silliness of its story and
concentrates upon its unique lyrical qualities. If A Midsummer Night's Dream can be said to
convey a message, it is that the creative imagination is in tune with the supernatural world, and is
best used to confer the blessings of Nature (writ large) upon mankind and marriage.

We have discussed at length the above ideas and how they ultimately weave this story
into our own lives each day. As the basis for a project, use these very themes and create
something that seeks to explicate this play in terms of interpretation, original analysis and
commentary. You may use any of the following devices:

Multigenre-Writing at least three separate pieces including a character of the play, a director of
the play and an actor portraying a character in the play, give your readers a sense of Midsummer
Nights Dream from the point of view of these people.

Essay-Using a thesis driven literary based essay, seek to explicate any of the major themes by
analyzing each one. Use appropriate ACHS stylesheet guidelines and be sure to cite sources and
have a works cited sheet.

Drama-Write an extra ACT or SCENE that would fit into the play somewhere and then a
metacognitive piece defending why your scene should be included.

Art-Paintings, drawings, films, sculpturesall of them with a metacognitive piece of writing of

no less than a full page (typed double spaced) that explains the artwork.

Other ideas? Let me know by Friday, March 18. The project is due by Tuesday, April 1.

Writers: Follow MLA formatupload paper to D2L by due date. Artists: photos of art project and
metacognitive papers to be uploaded. You may bring in the actual art piece, but your grade is
dependent upon a good quality image uploaded to D2L by due date.
