Onceweassembledthesebeauties(valves,springs,springlocators,shims,seals,retainersand
locks),weswappedthemontotheL99andwitnessedamajorpowerincrease.Powerjumpedto452

rwhpat6,500rpmandtorqueclimbedto400lbftat4,600rpm.Withthosegreatgains(46hpand22

lbft)wewereantsytohitthetrackthefollowingday.

Alsoduringthisheadswap,wewantedtotryoutthenewFASTLSXR102mmintakemanifold.It'san

excellentintakedesignedforlargercubicinchandforcedinductionLSengineswithLS3/L99/L92

rectangularportheadsandwewantedtoseeifwe'dseeanybenefitinourapplication.Weinstalled

theFAST102mmintakethenightbeforeourscheduledtracktestandpeakpowerincreasedby4hp

and5lbftoftorque.Thedownsideisthatwelostpowerinthefirsthalfofthepowerband.Matttriedto
restorethelostpower(7to8hp)inthelowtomidrangerpm(2,500to5,500),butitwasn'thappening

withourcombination.OtherindependenttestsusingtheLSXR102mmintakeona376cianda500ci
LSenginehavereportedgainsof16hpand26hprespectivelyoverastockintake.Ourpresent

configurationjustwasn'treadyforthebig102mmintake.Wehavefutureplansforthisintakeaswe
furthermodifythepoweroutput.

Ourscheduledtrackdatethefollowingmorningwasawashoutinfactitrainedforthenextfourdays.

Inthemeantime,wereinstalledthestockintakeandorderedacustommadesetofLivewiresspark
plugwiresfromPerformanceDistributors(2incheslongerthestockwiresweretooshortthanksto

thetallerMastheads).WealsoorderedasetofMiniVIP18voltstepupregulatorsfromPD.Again,
Mattwouldretuneonthedynowiththestockintakeandnewplugwires.

WiththestockintakeandthenewLivewiresinstalled,MattonceagaintunedhisCamarountilwe

wererightbackto452hpatthewheels.NowwecouldhavearealworldstriptestoftheMMBlack
Labelheads.Onthefirstpass,whenthescoreboardlitupa1.86,60feet(previousbestwas1.93),

wefeltan11secondtimewouldflashonthescoreboardanditdid.ThenewFbodypostedan11.81
at119.27mph.Yeswewereexcited,especiallyconsideringtheweight(4,050pounds)andthestock

torqueconverterandgearing(3.25:1).Ahotlapproducedan11.89at119.19mph.

Withrainapproachingontheradarscreen,wecouldonlychancea20minutecooldown.Wemadea
couplemorepasses,postingan11.87andan11.91atover119mph.Totallysatisfiedwithourresults,

wepackedupandheadedhome.

Beforeourstriptest,wewantedtotestPerformanceDistributorsMiniVIP18voltstepupregulators,

buttimeconstraintsandaheavyworkloadatTuneTime'sshoppreventedit.Afewdayslateritwas
showtimeforthe18voltMiniVIPs.Theyaddedanimpressive8hpand7lbftoftorquetothe

equation(458rwhp,407lbft).That'senoughpowertoeasilybeworthatenthatthetrack.Duetoa
strongersparkignitingthefuelinthecombustionchamber,theA/F(air/fuel)mixtureratiowasatad

leaner,goingfrom12.7to12.9.Tuninginatouchofenrichmentcouldhavegivenusafewhorses,but
thetunewasleftuntouched.

TheMastMotorsportsBlackLabelheadsimpressedusbeyondourexpectations.Whenyoucanbolt

onasetofheadsthatare46rwhpbetterthanthegreatLS3/L99/L92heads,it'samazing.TheMast
Motorsports12degreeheadsshowthelatestimprovementsinLScylinderheadtechnology.We're
surealargerdisplacementoraforcedinductionLSenginewouldberewardedmorepowerfrom

thesemassiveairmovingheads.
