POTABLE WATER SYSTEM PRESENTATION (1)

General
The potable water system supplies potable water from the potable water
tanks to the lavatories and galleys.
Two compressors or a ground-air pressure supply pressurize the potable
water system.
A water treatment module accomplishes the functions of inhibition of
scaling and heating.
The potable water system servicing is carried out from the potable water
service panel.

Potable Water System Architecture Operation/Control and Indicating
The operations and indications of the potable water system are done
The potable water system architecture comprises: on the FAPs, through the vacuum system control function, which
- the water storage, interfaces with the components of the system. The vacuum system
- the water distribution, control function is integrated in the Cabin Intercommunication Data

Water Storage panel.
The potable water is stored in six potable water tanks, each with a
capacity of 283 liters (75 US gallons), for a basic volume of 1700
liters (449 US gallons). Two optional tanks can be installed for a
maximum volume of 2267 liters (599 US gallons).
Water Distribution
The water distribution system supplies potable water from the potable
water tanks to the washbasins and toilets in the lavatories and to the
various items of water equipment in the galleys.
Two compressors, or a ground-air pressure supply, pressurize the
potable water tanks between 35 psi and 41 psi.
Water Treatment Module
L1W06161 - L0KT0T0 - LM38P1000000001

The potable water treatment module comprises:

- an inhibition-of-scaling module,
- a heating device.
The inhibition-of-scaling module avoids forming of layers of alkaline
earth compounds.
The heating device protects water against freezing.
Servicing
The potable water system is filled and drained from the potable water
service panel, through the fill/drain valve.

WASTE DISPOSAL SYSTEM PRESENTATION (1)

General
The waste disposal system is composed of these subsystems:
- the toilet system,
- the waste water drain-system.
The toilet system discharges the waste from the toilets and the Galley
Waste Disposal Units (GWDUs) into the waste tanks.
Vacuum generators create the necessary vacuum on the waste tanks to
ensure the waste flow.
The toilet system servicing is carried out from the waste service panel.
The waste water drain-system discharges overboard the waste water from
the galley sinks and the lavatory washbasins through heated drain masts.

control function is integrated in the Cabin Intercommunication Data
Toilet System Architecture System (CIDS) directors.
The waste quantity in the tanks is shown on the FAPs.
The toilet system architecture comprises:
- the waste storage,
- the waste transport,
- the servicing,
- the operation/control and indicating.
Waste Storage
The toilet system is divided into four independent subsystems. Each
subsystem has its own waste tank.
The tanks for the main deck lavatories and galleys have a capacity of
675 liters each (178 US gallons).
The tanks for the upper deck lavatories and galleys have a capacity
of 373 liters each (98 US gallons).
Waste Transport
The toilet system uses potable water to flush the toilets and the
GWDUs.
The waste materials are carried into the waste tanks through flush
valves by cabin differential pressure.
When this differential pressure is insufficient, at low altitude, four
vacuum generators generate the necessary vacuum in the waste tanks

to ensure the waste flow.

Servicing
During servicing, the waste tanks are drained then rinsed from the
waste service panel through the waste drain line valve and the rinse
connections.
Operation/Control and Indicating
The operations and indications of the waste disposal system are done
on the FAPs, through the vacuum system control function, which
interfaces with the components of the system. The vacuum system

Waste Water Drain System Architecture
The waste water drain-system discharges overboard the waste water from
the galley sinks and the lavatory washbasins.
The waste water flows through the drain valves to a FWD heated drain
mast, for the FWD drain lines, and to an aft heated drain mast, for the aft
drain lines.

Water/Waste System Safety Items
When you work on the water/waste system, make sure that you obey all
the AMM safety precautions. This will prevent injury to persons and/or
damage to the A/C. Here is an overview of the main safety precautions
relative to the water/waste system.
Some components of the potable water system are very hot.
As an example, to prevent burns, do not touch the water heaters until
they are sufficiently cool.
The potable water tanks are pressurized between 35 and 41 psi and can
cause injury to persons when they are working on them.
Consequently, make sure that the potable water system is depressurized.
When you are working on the water/waste system you have to be aware
that contamination can be dangerous to health.
To prevent contamination:
- do not work on the toilet system and potable water system at the same
time,
- make sure that the equipment used for servicing is clean and approved
for the potable water system,
- always put on rubber gloves, goggles and protective clothes when you
work on the toilet system,
- clean your hands with soap and water after working on the toilet system,
L1W06161 - L0KT0T0 - LM38P3MAINT0001

- when you remove a component of the toilet system, always put it in a

plastic bag then seal the bag.
Use of disinfectant can be dangerous to health.
Thus, when you use disinfectant, always put on rubber gloves, goggles
and protective clothes.
Due to the A380 dimensions, all the servicing panels are very high.
Consequently, safety precautions must be taken.
