Crochet - Overlay Crochet Mandala

Well I started straight away and here is my

first design!!!!! Yeah!!! FREE to
anyone interested, but please give
feedback and pics if possible!!!
My Mandala Overlay Flower
design:

Work in back loops unless stated.

1 With red. Into magic ring
make 8dc, ss to 1st dc
1 Dc in same place as ss,
(dc,1htr, 1tr, 1dtr,1tr,1htr,
1dc into next dc) repeat3
times, but last dc replace with ss
in 1st dc. Cut & tie off and
weave in ends.

back of work
1 Join orange thread at side of petal and work round
each petal (in back loops only) as follows: 3dc up
side ( in dc,htr, tr ), 3dc in top of dtr , 3dc down
 side( in tr,htr, dc) in between each petal work a
long dc into centre ring. Ss to join at end and cut
& tie off and weave in ends.
1 Now you are going to create 8 petals at the back
of these four petals - as in Irish crochet. Join blue
thread at back of flower in a long dc, *3ch, ss
through back of a dc on round 1, 3ch, ss to next
long dc.* Repeat from * to * all round. You should
have 8 3 ch loops at the back of the flower.
Continue in same colour, making petals as
follows: into each chain loop work: 1 dc,1htr, 2tr,
1dtr,1tr,2htr, 1dc. Ss to join, then cut & tie off
and weave in ends.

1 Join in pink thread with ss to any htr to

right of a petal. Working in
back loops, make *1dc in htr, tr
and tr up side of petal, 3 dc
in dbtr, 1dc in htr, tr, tr
down other side*.
Repeat from * tp * all
round 8 petals, missing
out the dc on each
petal. Ss to join and
then cut & tie off and weave
in ends.
 2 Join in red thread with ss . Repeat
round 5, missing out centre 2dc
between petals to keep stitches
same number. 89 st.

7. Join in pale turquoise thread with ss . As previous

rounds ( 3dc up side 3dc tog at top), but where
there is a petal of round 4, pick up 2 centre loops of
dtr and work a long dc and where there is no petal
work a 2dc tog dec. 89 st
1 Join green thread with ss in any long dc of
previous round. 3ch 7tr in same st (fan made),
*miss 3dc on prev round, 1 dc, in next st, 3 dc tog
in next st, 1 dc in next 9st, 3dc in next st, 1 dc in
next st, 1 fan (8tr) in long dc of rnd 7.* Rep twice
more, then miss 3dc on prev round, 1 dc, in next
st, 3 dc tog in next st, 1 dc in next 9 st, 3dc on
next st, 1dc in next st, ss to top of 3ch at beg of
1st fan.
 Well ...
here is the next
installment at long last. I am sorry for the delay,
but one problem was that I mislaid my
notebooks and my photos!! Fortunately they
turned up .. phew! I was thinking I might have
to do it all over again, and I have very little
time. My photos and last notes are here:

2 Join in dk turquoise to 1st dc before a 3 dc grp

before a fan, * 3dc in centre dc of previos rnd. 1tr
through LH side loop of long dc on rnd 7, 1 dc in
 each tr of fan, reach back and make a tr in RH
side loop of long dc on rnd 7 *, 3dc in centre dc of
next 3dc group, 1 dc in next 11 dc. Rep from * to *
4 times. SS to join then cut & tie off and weave in
ends.

3 Join pale blue in any centre dc of a group of 3 dc

to RH side of a 3 dc grp to RH side of any fan. *
dtr in orange loop on rnd 3 (same place a pale
turquoise dc) placing it to the RH side of the dk
turquoise tr on rnd 9. 1dc into top of tr on prev
rnd, 1dc in next 8 dc and 1dc in top of next tr.
Now make 1dtr in orange loop on rnd 3, placing it
to LH side of dk turquoise tr, miss 1dc, 2dc in next
dc(centre of 3 dc grp). 1 dc in next 12 st, 2dc in
centre dc of next 3 dc grp. * Rep from * to * 3
times, ending 2dc in starting st. Ss to join to top
 of dtr then cut &
tie off and weave
in ends.

11. Join pink to top of

any RH dtr, * 1dc in
same st, 1 dc in next
10 dc, 1 dc in top of
LH dtr. 1 ttr in orange
loop on rnd 3, placing
it to LH side of pale
blue dtr. Miss 1 dc on
rnd below, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc
in next 2 st, 5 ch, ss to centre
front loop of rnd 6 directly
below #(red). 5ch,miss 8 st on
row below, 1 dc in next 3st. (You should now have 1
unworked st before the dtr of prev rnd). 1 ttr in orange
loop below - placing it to RH side of pale blue dtr. *
Rep from * to * SS to join then cut & tie off and
weave in ends.
 12. Join green to any RH ttr,
* dc in same st, 12 dc, 1dc in
LH ttr, 1 dc in next 3 dc, 1 dc
in next 4 ch. Make a 2dc dec
over next 2 ch (1 either side
of ss), 1 dc in next 4ch and 3
dc* Rep from * to * 4 times.
SS to join then cut & tie off
and weave in ends.

13. Make 8 teardrops as

follows: In red: Into magic
ring, work: 4dc, 1htr, 1tr, 2dtr,
1ttr, 2dtr, 1tr, 1htr, 4dc. Pull
up, leaving a small hole. SS to
join then cut & tie off and
weave in ends. Join pale
turquoise in any dc to Lh side
of a fan, directly above a ttr. *
1 dc in same st, 1dc in next 3
st. Hold a teardrop with right
side facing and ss to join it to
the next 4dc, through the first and last dc of teardrop
(2 st in each)., using hook to work from front to back,
but keeping st at front. 10dc, join teardrop to next 4
dc as prev. 5dc,* Rep from * to * until all 8 teardrops
are attached, ending 6ch ss to join then cut & tie off
and weave in ends. There should be a teardrop in the
centre of each fan and a teardrop in the 'dips'
between!

14. Join in dk turquoise to any st at RH side of a

teardrop. 1dc in same st, * 6st up side of teardrop,
3dc in centre ttr of teardrop, 6dc down other side of
teardrop, 1 dc in each of next 10 st on prev rnd. *
Repeat from * to * until rnd complete. (ending with 9
dc) SS to join then cut & tie off and weave in ends.
15. Join orange to 1st St at
RH side of a teardrop. *7 dc up
side, 3dc together in centre
dc, 7dc down other side, miss
1st st on prev rnd, 8dc, miss
last st on prev rnd *and rep
from * to * until rnd complete.
SS to first st to join then cut &
tie off and weave in ends.
 16. Join red to any 1st dc at
RH side of a teardrop, above
a fan. *8dc up side 3dc
together in centre dc, 8dc
down other side, miss 1st st
on prev rnd, 6dc, 1 quadtr in
red loop on rnd 6 ( same
place as pink join from rnd
11 #) , (8dc up side of next
teardrop, 3dc together in
centre dc, 8dc down other
side, 1 quadtr in red loop on
rnd 6 ( same place as pink join from rnd 11 #), miss
1st st on prev rnd, 6dc *. Repeat from * to * until rnd
is complete. SS to join then cut & tie off and weave
in ends.
17. Join pink to any centre dc of a 3 dc grp. *3 dc in
same place. 7 dc, (dc dec over next 2 sts) x2, 3 dc,
7dc * Repeat until rnd complete. SS to join then cut &
tie off and weave in ends.
18. Join in dk turquoise to any centre dc of a 3 dc
grp. *3 dc in same place. 7 dc, (dc dec over next 2
sts) x2, 1 tr into a loop on rnd 14, to left of quad tr
(red), (dc dec over next 2 sts) x2, 7dc, 3dc in centre
dc of 3dc grp, 7dc, (dc dec over next 2 sts) x2, 1 tr

into a loop on rnd 14, to right of quad tr (red), 7dc. *

Repeat from * to * 4 times. SS to join then cut & tie
off and weave in ends.

19. Join in green to any centre dc of a 3 dc grp. *3 dc

in same place. 1dc in each of next 3 dc, 2dc in next
dc, 1 dc in next 3 dc, 2dc in next dc, 1 dc in next 5
dc, 2dc in next dc, 1dc in each of next 3 dc, 2dc in
next dc, 1 dc in next 3 dc, * Rep from * to * . SS to
join then cut & tie off and weave in ends.
20. Make 8 flowers as follows: With pale blue: 12dc into
magic ring, ss to join. (working through both loops all
round) 1 ch 1 dc in same place as ss, (3ch, miss 1 dc, 1
dc in next st) Repeat until there are 6 loops, ending ss to
1st ch, then cut & tie off and weave in ends. Attach pink
to any loop and work: 1dc, 1htr, 1tr, 1dtr, 1tr, 1htr, 1dc in
each loop. SS to join then cut & tie off and weave in
ends. (Now working in back loops only): Attach dk
turquoise to any dtr, *3 dc in same place, 3dc down lh
side, 1 long dc through centre dc on pale blue round, 3 dc
up side of next flower * Rep from * to *. SS to join then
cut & tie off and weave in ends. Now join in pale turquoise
to any centre dc of a 3 dc grp. *3 dc in same place. 1 dc
in each of next 4 st,. Now place flower back to back with
main piece. You will be working through back loops of
both pieces (joining dc): Joining dc in next 3 sts on main
piece and any petal of flower from centre dc of a 3dc
group (side of petal), 1 dc in next 4 dc on main piece,
joining dc in next 3 st on main piece and corresponding 3
st on next petal, 1 dc in next 4 dc on main piece *. Rep
from * to * until all 8 flowers are attached. SS to join
then cut & tie off and weave in ends

21. Join in red in centre dc of any 3 dc grp between

flowers. *3dc in same place 1dc in next 5 st on main part,
(3dc on flower, miss 3dc, 3dc on next petal, 3dc in
centre), x 2, 3dc on flower, miss 3dc, 3 dc on last petal, 5
dc, * Rep x 8. SS to join then cut & tie off and weave in
ends.

22. Join in pale blue in centre

dc of any 3 dc grp between
flowers. *3dc in same place, 1 dc
in next 5 st, reach back to make
a ttr in centre pink loop on rnd
17, miss next st, 1dc in next 7
sc, (3dc in centre of next 3dc
grp, 1 dc in next 8 dc) x 2, 3dc in
next centre grp of 3 dc, 1 dc in
next 7dc, Reach forward to
make a ttr in next centre pink
loop on rnd 17, miss 1dc, 1 dc in
next 5dc *. Rep from * to * x 8.
SS to join then cut & tie off and
weave in ends.
