On January 20, 1961 president elect John F. Kennedy stands before the citizens of the
United States to present his inaugural address. While delivering this speech at this time the
world was in fear of world destruction and threat of a strong, intimidating communist
government. In this speech JFK discusses how our nation should unify and work together to
redevelop our country. To do this Kennedy utilizes the many types of parallel structure in
an initial phrase. JFK repeats the phrase to those to call upon or grab the attention of our
allies , new friends, and the struggling. When he continues the phrases he tells those that we
are here to provide loyalty and support for for people that can also lend a helping hand. He uses
this technique towards the end his address as well. The president repeats, Let both sides.
When he says both sides he is referring to the U.S. and our allies across the world. He
finishes the anaphora by reciting , Let both sides unite to head in all corners of the earth the
command of Isaiah- to undo the heavy burdens [ and] let the oppressed go free. He states if
everyone were to coalesced we would be able to resolve the hardships. A perfect example of
how JFK conveys his message of hope and unity through anaphoras.

Continuing , Kennedy uses antithesis to support his message. Antithesis is when a person
is making a point by contrasting ideas with a parallel structure. The president incorporates
many antithesis in his address , but the one that clearly communicates his point is , If a free
society cannot help the many who are poor , it cannot save the few who are rich. This quote
explains that if our country can not solve the small problems how are we supposed to solve the
bigger problems in our society. He says this to identify the problem of support. He hope that
this will motivate the people to work together and solve the problems in our society . Likewise
John F. Kennedy recites , ask what not what your country can do for you--ask what you
can do for your country. This quote relays back to his moral because he wants to ensure us
Stokely Carmichael was a young civil rights activist that utilized his experiences to
empower and spread awareness to the African American community and anybody that was
willing to listen. While delivering this speech at Berkeley in 1966 Stokely there was a great
deal of racial discrimination between whites and any person of color. Because this problem
persisted and eventually turned into a violent complication, Carmichael wanted to remind his
audience that being black is not something you should be afraid of or ashamed of. In the
passage Stokely Carmichael applied rhetorical devices to his speech to appeal to his audience
At the start of the excerpt , Carmichael argues that there are misconceptions about the
term Black Power and that many people need to get past the premise that black is bad. To
make this point Carmichael appeals to his audiences sense of intelligence and social
consciousness by acknowledging they are a university crowd that is familiar with logic. If a
major is Anything all black is bad , and Carmichael is all black, people will come to the
conclusion that he is bad because of the standard given to the race. Not bad - in a way that
white people may assume , but in a way that makes Stokely powerful because of his motivation
to mend the wrongs in the world. Carmichael then appeals to the audiences sense of pride -- or
even guilt -- by proclaiming I am all black and Im all good , dig it. Those in his audience
may react by feeling relaxed and more comfortable because of his humor. By doing this it will
help the audience relate to the speaker , thus they can connect with him and understand the
battle of discrimination.
animal that symbolizes the strength and dignity of black people, an animal that never strikes
back until hes back so far into the wall , hes got nothing to do but spring forward This
appeals to the audience by giving them a reason why being black is not wrong. If black people
are being symbolized through a black panther that means that they do not result to violence
until they absolutely need too. But, they are fierce and when they do attack it will be hell. This
can either frighten the audience making them feel intimidated by this symbol or make them
