Lab journal: The mystery of the white powders VWO 2 Doortje Verspagen A2F

We will start with one of the substances. First we will add water to the substance. If the
substance doesnt react, we can cross out al the ones who soluble in water. Than we test
another substances. We will add again water to it, but than try something else.

Substance 1: We tested first if it was soluble in water. The substance didnt mix, so it wasnt
soluble in water. Then we tested if it should give a reaction to vinegar. The substance started to
bubble, so it gave a reaction. Therefore substance 1 = Ballatine

Substance 2: We tested first if it was soluble in water. This time it was. Then we tested the
reaction to iodine. The mixture didnt turn blue, so there was no reaction. Later we tested with
litmus paper. The litmus paper turned red so therefore substance 2 = Navigofene

Substance 3: We tested if it was soluble in water. The water got turbid so it was not a solution.
Then we tested the reaction to iodine. The mixture turned blue. Therefore substance 3 =
Mazeine

Substance 4: We tested if it was soluble in water. The substance disappeared, so we had a

solution. After we tested it with iodine, but it didnt gave a reaction. Then we tested it with
vinegar. The mixture went bubbling, so it had a reaction. Therefore substance 4 = Hallucine

Substance 5: The substance was soluble in water. Therefore substance 5 = Amoromate

Powder X = First we tested if it was soluble in water, but it wasnt. Then we added vinegar to it
and it gave a reaction. Therefore powder X = Ballatine
