Artistic Director for Clonmel Junction Festival

Clonmel Junction Festival produces and presents an annual 7 day


festival each July celebrating the arts, and the life and times we live
in.

Over the past 17 years CJF has grown to become a firm fixture on
the regional arts calendar with thousands of attendees each year
enjoying the celebration of theatre, music, performing arts, family
arts, street performance and visual arts presented in a myriad of
venues throughout the town.

Having had a founding Artistic Director for the first 15 years of its life,
2016 saw the first outing with new eyes. A tremendous critical and
artistic success, we are now looking for a dynamic new director to
lead Clonmel Junction Festival into 2018 and beyond. Wed love you
to join us in Clonmel during Clonmel Junction Festival 2017, to get a
sense of what a great festival it is and how it impacts on the town
and its great people. We then want your brilliance and your vision to
work with us to put together the programme for 2018.

Clonmel Junction Festival is a not-for-profit organisation with


charitable status. The organisation strives, through the support of our
funding partners, programme partners, patrons and sponsors, to
bring the highest quality arts events to Clonmel and its environs,
enriching the community, stimulating debate and nurturing a love of
the arts.

Key Responsibilities include :


Working closely with the Festival Manager and the Board of
Directors to ensure that the organisation fulfils its mission.

Devising an ambitious, imaginative and affordable programme


for the Festival.

Managing the finances, administration and governance of the


company.

Preparing a draft budget for consideration by the board of


directors.

Sourcing funding to deliver the seven day festival within the


agreed budget
Booking acts for the Festival and negotiating contracts with
artists and/or agents.

Fundraising and recruitment of sponsors and patrons.

Preparing financial information for funders and stakeholders as


required.

Negotiating terms with participating venues.

Managing the income and expenditure of the Festival


account.

Managing the office at 18 Parnell Street, Clonmel.

Hiring staff as required and within the agreed budget.

Ensuring that current Health and Safety and work practices


legislation is adhered to.

Liaising with the Production Manager to ensure that the festival


runs professionally and that all members of the production
team are fully qualified and informed of the festivals Health
and Safety statement.

Relationship Management
The Festival Director manages the Festivals relationship with its
stakeholders in conjunction with the Festival Manager:

The Board of Directors.

The Festivals primary funder the Arts Council, including all


aspects of core revenue funding and other Arts Council
funding initiatives.

Corporate sponsors and Festival patrons.

Other funding partners, including Filte Ireland and Tipperary


County Council.

The Festival Director also establishes and maintains a highly


professional focus towards delivering the festival for all
members of the Festival team

Governance
The Festival Director is responsible for
ensuring that all legal obligations of the company are met
including liaison with the Companies Registration Office, the
Charities Regulation Authority, Revenue and other government
bodies

providing administrative support to the Board of Directors

ensuring that Board meeting minutes and papers are accurate


and filed and that procedures and protocol at Board meetings
and AGM are in line with the companys constitution

Updating and maintaining policies of Health & Safety, Child


Protection, evacuations etc in conjunction with the Festival
Manager, Production Manager and seasonal department
supervisors

Administration/ Operations
The Festival Director is responsible for organising insurance cover for
the company and any additional cover required during the festival
period

Skills and Competencies


The Festival Director should be able to demonstrate that s/he
possesses the necessary business and managerial acumen and
interpersonal skills required for this challenging position which
includes the following:

o Ability to manage budgets

o Strong organisational skills

o Ability to manage and deliver projects

o Ability to prioritise workloads

o Flexibility

o An ability to work on his/her own initiative

o Excellent written and verbal communication skills

o 3rd level and/or postgraduate qualification

o Familiarity with national and international funding structures


o Knowledge of the infrastructure and network of venues for the
arts in Ireland

o 3 years experience in a similar or equivalent role.

Type of Contract
Overlap with current director in run up to 2017; attend 2017 festival
and prepare 2018 Arts Council application, for submission in early
September.
