Darwins philosophy of Evolution and its Implications on Education and

society Abstract Scientific advancements are welcomed globally
because their aim is to push humans forward and to bring ease in the
life of every individual in planet earth. The process of adopting
something as a Fact in Science is pretty fascinating hypothesis
converts to theories then experiments will affirm it as a fact or not but
all this process is way far from interfering in to the lifes of all
nonscientific communities.

Unfortunately, Darwins Theory of evolution is one of those theories

which is still not proven and accepted as fact but it laid a massive
impact on human civilization and described a new meaning of creation
evolution life and its purpose. An attempt will be made in this paper to
highlight the impacts of Darwins Theory of evolution on self and
societies across the globe.

Darwinism Introduction In the mid of 18th century because of the rise
of scientific rationalism in the west it was the time when science was
flourishing so rapidly in west like there is no tomorrow. Great work was
going on in almost every field of science but mainly the focus of 18th
centurys science was on Physics, Biology and Mathematics.

Though there is nothing stagnant in theories propounded by different

scientists for example if there was something wrong in one the later
counter comrade will fix it for instance Newtons physics which is
commonly known as Newtonian physics the gist of Newtons physics
was that everything is matter and matter is everything nothing else
compares or have value in front of matter but later on Einstein fixed
this concept by giving his theories of relativity and he suggested that
matter is nothing but energy Matter IS energy. If you give it a velocity,
it simply has more energy in the form of kinetic energy.

But there is one theory which is still not been overthrown by any
scientist, refuted by many but no one came up with an alternative
theory against it and that is the Darwins Theory of Evolution. Because
it was not altered by recent research it reshaped itself like a philosophy
and got its value in the very roots of society not by going into scientific
micro details on a general note if someone will try to define it then it
would be that, Human beings have no special purpose of creation
Human beings are just as animals like gorillas chimpanzees and apes
are, the only tiny difference between us and them are like a difference
we have between donkey and horse a donkey is supposed to be an
inferior race and horse is supposed to be a superior race thats the only
upside we have on apes other than that we are just animals like them.

We are all evolved from a common ancestor. Species survives through

natural selection which is survival of the fittest. Implications of
Darwins Theory on Scientific Community Darwin was the first Scientist
who started the debate of creationism and naturalism. Thus, becoming
a mere scientific theory, it rather reshaped itself as a philosophy
between modern scientific approach and religion and thats why its
implications on society and culture was very severe.

It provided a philosophical base to construct a non-theist generation

where they can dumb all religions including everything humans
inherited from their ancestors like morality, norms, law, art, culture,
behavior, character etc. Darwin based his roots on natural selection
but he himself couldnt define that what is nature thats a different
issue but he propounded the thought of naturalism hence human
beings who were transferring the above-mentioned concepts from
generations which he altered with his theory of evolution and he
started to call them creationists and followers of Darwins ideology
became naturalists.

Darwin is a historical figure for a unique reason because until Darwin

the scientific community and the religious world was largely co-workers
and they were working to gather to find a good way to progress.Until
Darwins On the Origin of Species (often called) The Origin of Species
or The Origin) book was published in 1859, the leading orthodox
scientific explanation for the origin of life was creationism. Earlier then
Darwinian revolution, special creation was almost universally accepted
by both religious and scientific communities.
More specifically, before Darwins publication, most scientists who
researched in this matter had opinions on the subject were special
creationism. In fact, Prior to the development of evolutionary theory,
almost 100 percent of relevant scientists were creationists. Now the
number is far less than 1 percent. As Provenzo writes, the creation-
evolution debate began with Charles Darwin and, until his theory of
evolution science was primarily rooted in theology and the basic
purpose of science was to determine the existence of God signifying
evidence of Gods design and influence nature.

In 1859, when Charles Darwin published his book on the Origin of

Species, he demolished the comforting notion that we are unique
among all specie and the supreme object of Gods creation, and the
only creature whose early travails could be cashed in for a comfortable
afterlife but he argued that like all species, we are the result of a purely
natural and material process.

Evolutionary theory weakened one of the most intuitively compelling

arguments for the existence of God the argument from design. Theists
going back at least as far as Thomas Aquinas had argued that the
intricate design found in organ- isms was evidence of a designer,
namely God neither Hume nor anyone else had been able to think of a
better explanation, and the design argument retained much of its
force. Darwin changed all of this.

His theory of natural selection provided a naturalistic account of the

origin of species an explanation for design without a designer.
Professor Nigel Williams was even more blunt, writing that Darwin was
the one who destroyed the strongest evidence left in the nineteenth
century for the existence of a deity.

Professor Francisco Ayala explained in detail why Darwinism ruled out

theism, namely because it negated the need for an intelligent Creator
for the reason that Darwins greatest contribution to science is he led
the way to prove that natural law can create all that is real, and no
need exists for an intelligent Creator because organisms could now be
explained. as the result of natural processes, without recourse to an
Intelligent Designer.

Darwinian revolution was perhaps the most noteworthy revolution that

has ever occurred in the sciences, because its effects and influences
were significant in many different areas of thought and belief. The
significance of this revolution was a systematic rethinking of the nature
of the world, of man, and of human foundations. This event, a
declaration of revolution in a formal scientific publication, appears to
be without parallel in the history of science.
Ernst Mayr concluded that Darwin instigated a greater upheaval in
mans thinking than any other scientific advance since the birth of
science in the Renaissance. The fact is, nowhere in Darwinism is there
any mention or need for God, or even an Intelligent Creator, a fact that
raised an uncomfortable possibility If God is not needed to explain the
design in nature which was generally considered the best evidence for
a designer maybe God does not exist at all.

Darwins Theory of evolution was not simply a scientific theory which

only dealt with universe or cosmos but it was directly influencing
human minds and their affairs and at last it became very difficult to
believe in both ideas it evolved in to a kind of faith and religion itself. It
is impossible to believe a single proposition can be both true and false
at the same time, likewise one cannot logically and simultaneously
believe in two contradictory explanations of lifes origins. Either God
created life, thus creationism is true, or purely natural forces did, thus
naturalistic evolutionism is true.

Naturalism is a young, new religion that is now the dominant religion

among almost all leading Darwinists. Implications of Darwins
Philosophy on Society and Education Darwins Theory of evolution was
directly related to the origin of human race so it had laid its effects on
society at large it emerged as a philosophy which influenced literature
social behavior norms and culture understanding.

With the use of his theory in social sciences a new branch emerged
known as Social Darwinism. Since Darwin, every knowing person
agrees that man is descended from the apes, Evolution has an impact
on every aspect of man's thinking his philosophy, his metaphysics, his
ethics.

Sociology, economics, political science, anthropology and psychology

have become so highly focused that it is hard to conceive of a single
generally accepted theory of social life. But thanks to recent gains in
biology, the time has come to reconsider the unadventurous
assumptions underlying twentieth century social and political history.

Biology is the suitable link, because we are first of all living beings.
Evolutionary theory would offer a wide-ranging approach to human
behavior, linking the existing gaps between the various social sciences
and relating them to the natural sciences.

Political behavior, he declared, can most fruitfully be understood as a

biological subject because doing so will break the simplistic dichotomy
between nature and culture. Six years later he named sociobiology a
bridge between the natural and social (or human) sciences, placing
social life in a Darwinian theoretical context without dropping humans
to unthinking beasts.

Proceeding knowledge has shown that social Darwinism is not only

wrong, but sadly harmful and still adversely affects society today, such
as in the modern form of Darwinism called sociobiology. Darwin
provided the hypothetical framework within which anthropologists and
biologists have ever since been able to endorse the social inequality of
the sexes.

Accordingly, it is important to expose Darwins and recentralize, not

only for historical reasons, but also because it remains an integral and
unquestioned part of contemporary biological theories. According to
Darwins theory of evolution our life has simply no purpose at all we
are a purpose less creatures just purposeless as other animals like dog
horse apes. In other words, life lives only for the moment with no
forethought or concern for the future, the eat and drink and be merry
for tomorrow we may die philosophy.

Darwin was a selfish and ruthless man in some ways, but selfless and
ruthless mainly in service to his work of proving that intelligence was
not involved in the creation of the natural world, but rather time,
natural law, chance, mutations, and natural selection did it all.
According to evolutionary theory Were just a bit of pollution If you got
rid of us the universe would be largely the same, Were completely
irrelevant.

Richard Dawkins concluded, although humans have always wondered

about the meaning of life the fact is life has no higher purpose other
than to perpetuate the survival of DNA. If life itself was given to us by
evolutionary accidental chance, then we shouldnt trouble searching
for meaning in our own existence because were not going to find any.
We are just the outcomes of random molecules and physical forces. We
have no reason to regard our existence as anything but a pointless
byproduct of nature.

The most dangerous aspect of this theory is teaching evolution to

young students at their early stage of life, around 5.5 billion people in
this world has either followers of a religion or have faith in a super
natural being teaching young minds this anti-religious theory will
definably confuse their minds what they learn at home from their
parents and what they read in biology.

The fact that evolution teaches life is purposeless except to aid

survival is not lost on teachers. One teacher testified that when she
taught evolution it significantly impacted her students consciences
because it moved them away from the idea that they were born for a
purpose something completely counter to their mind-set and beliefs.

Yale psychologists Bloom and Weisberg concluded in a study on why

children resist accepting evolution, that the evolutionary view of the
world, which the authors call promiscuous teleology, makes it
difficult for children to accept evolution. Children naturally see the
world in terms of design and purpose and they must be indoctrinated
to see the world in another way.To determine what schools are
teaching about religious questions, such as the purpose of life, a set of
leading current science textbooks were surveyed.

The clear trend found is they teach the view that evolution is both
nihilistic and atheistic. One of todays most widely used textbooks
stated that evolution works without either plan or purpose. Evolution is
random and undirected. Many school textbooks are very open about
the implications of Darwinism for theism.

One teaches that Darwins immeasurably important contribution to

science was to show that, despite lifes apparent evidence of design
and purpose, purely mechanistic causes explain all biological
phenomena. The text adds that by coupling undirected, purposeless
variation to the blind, uncaring process of natural selection, Darwin
made theological or spiritual explanations of the life processes
superfluous.

Another text even stated that humans were created by a random

process, not a loving, purposeful God, and the real difficulty in
accepting Darwins theory has always been that it diminishes our
significance because evolution requires us to accept the proposition
that, like all other organisms, we too are the products of a random
process that, as far as science can show, we are not created for any
special purpose or as part of any universal design. These texts all
clearly teach worldviews, not science.

An excellent example is a textbook that openly ruled out not only

theistic evolution but any role for God in nature, noting that Darwinism
threatened theism by showing that humans and all life could be
explained by natural selection without the intervention of a god The
Darwinian view that. present-type organisms were not created
spontaneously but formed in a succession of selective events that
occurred in the past, contradicted the common religious view that
there could be no design, bio- logical or otherwise, without an
intelligent designer. In this scheme, a god of design and purpose is not
necessary.
Religion has been bolstered by the comforting idea that humanity was
created in the image of a god to rule over the world and its creatures.
Religion provided emotional solace, a set of ethical and moral values
we Nevertheless have faith in religious dogma and it has been eroded
by natural explanations of its mysteries. The positions of the
creationists and the scientific world appear irreconcilable.

CONCLUSION Hence one can see a very clear impact of this scientific
theory on society at large and education. this is the most dangerous
and venomous philosophy of our era which is not only trying to cut the
very roots of Religion but also the morality, character and civilization
which we inherited from our fore fathers which was transmitted to us
generation after generations.

This theory not only challenges the basic fundamental concepts which
humans had since their beginning which is that we are created by a
supreme creator but also targets the purpose of life and universe in a
completive negative narrative.
